Kennebunkport, Maine is one of those coastal towns that feels like it belongs in a storybook. Colorful clapboard houses, bustling sidewalks, and the salty scent of the harbor create a setting that’s both vibrant and laid-back. Whether you’re here for a quick day trip or a long weekend, the town blends New England tradition with a dash of seaside whimsy. On our recent visit, we discovered a mix of charming shops, delicious treats, and a classic lunch that made the day feel perfectly Maine.

Shopping at Seacraft Vintage

Our first stop was Seacraft Vintage, a gem of a shop tucked away from the busier corners of town. Inside, it felt like stepping into a treasure chest: vintage coastal décor, one-of-a-kind antiques, and pieces that seem to hold their own stories. From maritime art to worn-in textiles, the collection leaned into nostalgia without feeling kitschy. It’s the kind of shop where you want to linger, not just browsing, but imagining where each piece might have come from.

Exploring the Shops

From there, we wandered down Dock Square, the heart of Kennebunkport. The streets are lined with a mix of boutiques, galleries, and gift shops, each offering its own flavor of coastal charm. You’ll find everything from nautical clothing to handmade jewelry and home goods that reflect the breezy, seaside lifestyle. What I love most about exploring here is that it doesn’t feel cookie-cutter; instead, there’s a sense of individuality in each shop, as if the town itself has curated the experience.

Saltwater Taffy

No trip to a New England beach town would be complete without a stop for saltwater taffy at The Candy Man. We picked up a small bag in a pastel mix of fruity flavors: green apple, pineapple, and of course, the classic watermelon. There’s something timeless about this simple treat, the kind of sweet that feels tied to childhood vacations and family traditions. Unwrapping a piece on the go, with the paper crinkling in the sea breeze, was a small but delightful highlight of the afternoon.

Lunch at The Clam Shack

By midday, it was time for lunch, and there’s no better place in town than the iconic Clam Shack. Perched right on the bridge, this no-frills spot has been serving up fried clams, lobster rolls, and other classics for decades. We ordered a lobster roll, overflowing with sweet, fresh meat served on a buttered bun, and shared a basket of golden, crispy fried clams. Eating right by the water, with boats bobbing in the harbor, felt like the definition of a Maine summer day. Don’t forget to grab a refreshing rose and blueberry hand pies for sweet treats to accompany your lobster roll.

Kennebunkport has a way of wrapping you up in its charm. Between the vintage treasures, boutique browsing, sweet bites of saltwater taffy, and that unforgettable lobster roll, our day in town felt both full and unhurried. It’s a place where you can easily fill an itinerary, or simply stroll and see where the day takes you. Whether you’re a longtime New Englander or a first-time visitor, Kennebunkport makes you want to linger, just one more shop, one more bite, one more glance at the harbor.
