Summer always has a way of sneaking up on me—one moment it’s April and we’re layering trenches over sweaters, and the next, I’m pulling linen dresses from the back of the closet and stocking up on SPF. We kicked off the season with a sun-drenched brunch at the Bedford Post Inn, and ever since, the weeks ahead have been filling up faster than expected. While I typically like to keep summer plans loose and breezy, this year is shaping up to be delightfully full of movement, memory-making, and a few new destinations I’m especially excited about.

Memorial Day in the Hamptons

We’re welcoming the unofficial start of summer with a weekend on the East End. Although the weather is expected to be unseasonably cold, I’m looking forward to s’mores in the backyard, exploring and shopping in the quaint towns, and crisp glasses of rosĂ©. There’s something timeless about the Hamptons this time of year—before the true summer rush begins.

Celebrate the Jaws 50th Anniversary

Fun fact about me: Jaws is one of my all-time favorite movies and this year marks 50 years since it first made a splash in theaters. To celebrate, we’re heading over to Westerly, Rhode Island for a Jaws screening and celebration. There’s a nostalgic thrill in revisiting a classic in the place so close to what inspired it all. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to explore the Ocean State with a fresh lens.

A Girl’s Weekend in Palm Beach

Fingers crossed this one comes together, because a girls’ getaway in Palm Beach sounds like just the thing for a mid-summer reset. Think: matching robes, cocktails by the Colony Hotel pool, and lots of laughs over seafood towers and shared sunscreen. We’re dreaming of cabana stripes, vintage shops, and morning walks along Worth Avenue.

Relaxation and Rum in Barbados

This will be my first time visiting Barbados, and I’m already envisioning warm nights, lush greenery, and that signature Caribbean pace that encourages you to slow down and sip something tropical. We’re planning to split time between lounging at Cobbler’s Cove and light exploring—maybe even a boating day if we’re feeling adventurous.

A Family Wedding on Lake Winnipesaukee

We’re heading to Lake Winnipesaukee for a family wedding this summer, and I’m especially excited about the charming historic schoolhouse we’ve rented—it looks so peaceful and tucked away. I’m looking forward to quiet mornings, exploring more of New Hampshire, and of course, raising a glass on the dock to celebrate the happy couple.

Ending the Summer at the Weekapaug Inn

Returning to Weekapaug Inn feels like closing the season with a deep exhale. It’s becoming a fast favorite family tradition—long walks on the Atlantic, easy dinners by the lawn, and maybe one last round of pool time before the start of fall begins. It’s one of those places where everything slows down, in the best way.

And somehow, there’s even more on the horizon—dinners with friends, spur-of-the-moment day trips, maybe a surprise or two. How did the summer season get so packed? I’m not complaining, just trying to soak it all in, one crisp glass of rosé and lobster roll at a time.

Love from New York,
Katie

It’s hard to believe we’ve officially lived in Connecticut for two years. In many ways, it feels like we just arrived—and in others, it feels like this has always been home. Over the past year especially, we’ve settled into a beautiful rhythm of life here. We welcomed our daughter, Brennan, and in doing so, discovered a whole new way of experiencing our surroundings. There’s something so special about seeing your home through your child’s eyes: every cobblestone street, every waterfront walk, every small-town bakery suddenly feels brand new. Whether we’re exploring historic towns, driving through leafy backroads, or simply spending quiet weekends at home, Connecticut continues to surprise and delight us.

Essex and the Connecticut River

On an early summer day, we made a spontaneous trip to Essex—a quintessential New England town that feels straight out of a postcard. Tucked along the Connecticut River, Essex is steeped in maritime history and timeless charm. We wandered the quiet streets, peeked into antique shops, and capped off the afternoon with lunch at the Griswold Inn, one of the oldest continuously operating inns in America. You can feel the stories in the walls—especially with a cold glass of iced tea in hand and Brennan napping in the stroller beside us.

Litchfield County

No year in Connecticut feels complete without at least one visit to Litchfield County. Although it’s about an hour away, the drive itself is part of the experience—quiet, winding roads that make you want to roll down the windows and play your favorite weekend playlist. We’ve explored farm stands, lingered over long lunches at countryside cafés, and admired the views that stretch for miles. It’s the kind of place that makes you breathe deeper and move slower, and it always leaves us feeling a little more grounded.

Mystic and Seaport Museum

One weekend, when my parents were in town visiting, we finally made it to Mystic—and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. The Mystic Seaport Museum was the highlight of the trip, with its immersive exhibits, historic ships, and sweeping views of the Mystic River. We lingered on the docks, letting Brennan watch the sailboats drift by. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and take it all in—history, nature, and that salty coastal air.

As we celebrate two years here, I feel endlessly grateful for the quiet beauty and richness Connecticut offers. It’s not flashy, but it’s full of depth—like a well-loved book you want to read again and again. Watching Brennan grow up here has been the greatest joy, and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for our little family in this charming corner of New England.

Love from Connecticut,
Katie

There is something magical about waking up to a fresh blanket of snow, especially when you’re tucked away in a cozy retreat like the Weekapaug Inn. Nestled along the Rhode Island coastline, this charming inn blends rustic elegance with coastal New England charm, making it the perfect escape for a winter weekend. Our visit was already filled with serene moments and delicious meals, but waking up to a surprise snowfall made it all the more special.

Waking Up to a Winter Wonderland

Opening the curtains to a snow-covered landscape felt like stepping into a postcard. The once-green marshes were blanketed in white, and the inn’s cedar shingles had a picturesque dusting of fresh snow. The air was crisp, and the soft glow of morning light made everything feel peaceful and still. There’s something about snow that brings a sense of calm, an invitation to slow down and savor the beauty of the moment.

A Slow Morning Followed by Breakfast

With nowhere to be and no rush to leave, we embraced the coziness of the inn for a slow morning. Wrapped up in layers, we sipped coffee by the fire and watched the snowfall from the comfort of the lounge. Eventually, the promise of a warm breakfast pulled us to the dining room, where I indulged in a lobster omlette, buttery home fries, and more hot coffee. The Weekapaug Inn prides itself on locally sourced ingredients, and each bite felt like a comforting embrace on a chilly winter morning.

Getting Out in the Snow for Some Family Fun

After breakfast, we couldn’t resist bundling up and stepping outside to make the most of the snow day. Dressed in a red buffalo plaid LL Bean coat, J.Crew sweater pants, a cashmere sweater, and olive green Hunter boots (courtesy of the inn’s Hunter Borrowing Closet), I was ready for the winter adventure ahead. Brennan, snug in an LL Bean fleece bunting suit, was equally prepared for her first snowy escapade. We crunched through the fresh snow, taking in the beauty of the frozen shoreline before indulging in a few playful moments—tossing handfuls of powdery snow and laughing as the cold air filled our lungs.

Snow days have a way of turning even the simplest moments into cherished memories. From the quiet of the morning to the laughter-filled adventures outside, our stay at the Weekapaug Inn was the perfect blend of relaxation and seasonal fun. Whether it’s a sunny summer visit or a cozy winter escape, this charming retreat never fails to delight. Until next time, Weekapaug!
