It seems like everyone in New York is always in a hurry! Seeing a mass of people power walking to get to their destination is just an average commute. That’s because NYC runs on a slightly different schedule than the rest of the country. Everything is just so incredibly faced paced here. Timing out the traffic lights and subways is practically an art form. To juggle it all, it’s important to have a great watch that will look good and help you keep track of it all. My New York minute is powered by my JORD Watch.

Any outfit doesn’t feel complete without a watch of my wrist. It’s genuinely an accessory I can’t live without, both for style and function. JORD (pronounced Yode) was so kind as to send me this stunning watch from their new Cora Polaris collection. This brand is incredibly unique because they use high-quality wood to make classic watches, with a twist.

I was absolutely floored when I saw this automatic wood watch in person. Typically, I’m not a rose gold kind of girl. Nearly all of my jewelry is yellow gold, but the rose gold paired with rich walnut and a midnight blue face makes for a beautiful combination. So much thought and detail was put into this beautiful wooden timepiece. Hand-seated Swarovski crystals are embedded into the face to create a ‘Little Dipper’ design. Since the materials come from nature, why not add more nature-inspired influences?

To really attest to the quality of the watch, there are two more features that a true watch lover will absolutely appreciate. First, the watch is a self-winding automatic. That means no pesky batteries to worry about. You can catch a little glimpse of the watch movement from the front of the watch, but the real show is on the back. All of the mechanics can be seen there. Also, the face is covered by a scratch-proof sapphire crystal. Second, in hardness only to diamonds, it guarantees that your watch will continue to look pristine on the first wear or the thousandth. It is a true collector’s timepiece!

Even with all of the glitz and glamour, it’s still an extremely versatile piece. The wood materials keep it casual enough to wear every day and the crystal details elevate it for a day at the office or night out. It also comes in three other color combinations, each more gorgeous than the last. Besides my midnight blue watch, I’m very partial to the yellow gold and turquoise combo.

As part of my collaboration with JORD, I’m also hosting a little giveaway that you just can’t miss out on! One lucky reader will receive a $100 gift card to pick the Jord watch of their choice. Besides the Cora Polaris, they have many other watch styles for both men and women. If you swear by your Apple Watch, they have specially designed bands for that too. Their next venture includes sunglasses and baseball caps, but I’ve heard that a line of handbags is also in the works too.

One Year in NYC

One Year in NYC

One year in New York! Holy cow, I cannot believe I’m writing that! If you would have told me two years ago that I would be living in the Big Apple, I probably would have laughed. You never know where life is going to take you, let alone where you’ll make a home. For those of you who are new to the blog. First off, welcome! Secondly, it’s important to know that I’m a Florida girl who transplanted to NYC to follow an amazing career opportunity for her husband. The move was the inspiration behind the new blog name, originally being called The Coastal Stylist.

Anyways, August marks the anniversary of the Kennedy’s moving to NYC. Currently, we’re nestled in the Upper East Side, a stone’s throw from the MET Museum and Central Park. Although we love our little corner of Manhattan, we find so much joy in exploring the other neighborhoods. Our current favorites, besides our own, are Greenwich Village and Chelsea. Sometimes the number of options to explore is overwhelming, but we make it our mission to try something new every weekend.

Since moving here, one of the biggest transformations I’ve noticed within myself is how I dress. Florida style is all about bright colors and bold prints. You will definitely still see that around New York, and on me, but neutrals are normally the name of the game. Inspiration is absolutely everywhere. I find myself taking more fashion risks and feeling less afraid of statement pieces. I also love the notion of wearing bolder looks just to run my errands around town.

A year in NYC has also made me more patient with people. You may have heard that New Yorkers are all rude and brash. That is simply not true. I’ve met some amazingly nice people who were born and raised here. However, you will have to deal with people really focused on their own day and not in-tune with what’s happening around them. Seeing shoving because they are in a hurry or moving at a snail’s pace because they are buried in their phone are daily occurrences. I’ve been blessed with a lot of patience and it definitely has been tested here on multiple occasions.

You also see a lot of kindness here. People who choose to live in NYC are a pretty resilient group, but most are willing to help a fellow New Yorker in need. I believe that tiny acts of kindness, no matter how small, keep this city running. I try and facilitate that mindset in any way I can. It helps me feel like I’m more apart of the city and not just a long-term tourist.

How long will I be staying in New York? Only time will tell. David and I talk daily about how much we love St. Pete and how it will always be home. In the meantime, I can’t wait to take full advantage of living in the capital of the world. During this next year in NYC, I hope to visit more museums, try more restaurants, and meet more interesting people. Cheers to a marvelous year!

Love from NYC,
Katie

Showing Your Parents Around New York

Showing Your Parents Around New York

NYC, New York City, Rent the Runway, Tory Burch, Ferragamo, Tuckernuck, Preppy, Travel, Tour Guide

Last weekend we hosted David’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy. Even though city was in the middle of an intense heat wave, it was so nice to visit with them. If you’re a fellow New Yorker, then I’m sure you’ve had to play host to family and close friends. Although you should always let your guests have the first say in what to do, the number of choices can seem overwhelming and it’s a good idea to have some thoughts on standby, just in case.

  • Stop by your favorite neighborhood spot: Let’s start with something simple. I’m sure your guests want to see the local watering hole. If this is their first time visiting, it will help to give them a pretty good sense on the energy of the neighborhood where you live. Discounted drinks for being a regular is just also a potential added bonus.
  • Take a trip on the ferry: One of the biggest things NYC visitors want to see is a great view of our amazing skyline. For the cost of a subway ticket, taking a trip on the ferry is another option for getting around town. In the spring, we took the ferry to explore Williamsburg and it’s still one of my favorite days in the city to date.

  • Visit the Met Museum: This museum should be on your list because there is something for everyone. You could spend all day here, and then some, to take in their 2 million pieces of art. If you need a break, stop by their rooftop bar for a happy hour and people watching.
  • Walk the High Line and grab breakfast: Another personal favorite is to walk the High Line and stop for a very satisfying breakfast at Empire Diner. Since we live in the Upper East Side, showing our guests Chelsea keeps a perspective of the city in balance. While the UES is considered more proper, Chelsea has such a trendy and artistic energy. While you’re in the neighborhood, you can also window shop at the new Hudson Yard or visit the Whiney Museum for a fun twist on American art.

  • Go out to a Yankees game: Even if they are a self-declared non-Yankees fan, visiting Yankees stadium is always a treat. The stadium is absolutely gorgeous and there isn’t a more quintessential New York activity. Stay until the very end of the game and they play New York, New York by Frank Sinatra. Don’t forget to order a round of hot dogs.
  • Shop down 5th and Madison Avenues : These streets don’t need any introduction, especially if your guests like to shop ’til they drop. Nearly every designer and brand imaginable can be found in New York City, and many can only be found here. Walk down 5th of Madison, even if just to window shop is always a memorable experience.

Having your parents visit is a great excuse to get out and reintroduce yourself to your own city. Allow yourself to be ‘touristy’! To my own mom and dad, whenever you want to come up and visit, our door is open!

Love from NYC,
Katie
