One of the greatest joys since moving to Connecticut is the endless number of new cities to explore. Within a two-hour drive from our coastal home, we have the beaches, the mountains, and charming towns. It allows us to get out and explore all that New England offers. Over the weekend, David and I had the pleasure of popping into New Haven for a sweet little date night hosted by the Omni. It served as a wonderful little teaser for Valentine’s Day celebrations and gave us an adventure that even I could handle at 7 months pregnant.

Check-in at the Omni

For those who don’t know, New Haven is home to Yale University, one of the prestigious Ivy League schools. The Omni of New Haven sits right next to campus and across from New Haven Green. Founded in 1701, Yale is a deeply historic school, and you can quickly see how that inspired the Omni’s decor. The black and white photos alongside vintage football programs feel very New England. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the warm Omni staff and found a sweet little treat waiting for us in our suite. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, they are offering a thoughtful Romance Package to start your date night on the right note. The bottle of champagne (which has been saved for post-baby) and the sweet treats were deeply appreciated.

Event with Casa Robles Wine

Before dinner, we were invited to a Valentine’s Day wine-tasting event featuring Casa Robles, held at their rooftop lounge, Bar 19. While I couldn’t partake fully, David loved their selection of cabernets. To let this pregnant girl feel included, the staff happily whipped up some delicious mocktails for me to sample. Plus, there were several little plates to pair with the wine. Each bite was more delicious than the last, but we had to pace ourselves for the 7:00 dinner reservations ahead of us.

Dinner at John Davenports

After one final mocktail and glass of wine, respectively, we headed over to the Omni’s rooftop restaurant. John Davenports is on the 19th floor and offers sweeping views of the New Haven Green and Yale campus. Off in the distance, you can see East Rock Park, which I’ve heard has some of the best hiking in the area. From appetizers to our entrees to dessert, it was tempting not to wipe our plates clean. So many dishes sounded incredible, giving us an excuse for a repeat reservation in the future. Feeling incredibly full, we returned to our room and relaxed in the cozy Omni robes before drifting off to sleep.

Breakfast at the Hotel

Is there anything better than a hotel breakfast? We decided to have a lazy morning in the hotel room, which started with a hot steam shower and Nest products, Sicilian Tangerine, to be precise! Soon enough, breakfast called our names, and we returned to John Davenports. Delicious! If you order their breakfast sandwich, I recommend getting a side of their pepper jam, which is made in-house. Also, I wanted to sing our server’s praises. Robin was a delight to talk with and has worked at the Omni New Haven for over 15 years. I think it’s a testament to the hotel and restaurant’s quality.

Thank you to everyone on the Omni team for making this such a special retreat! David and I can’t wait to return and experience even more of New Haven, the Elm City, in the future!

Love from New Haven,
Katie

Whenever I travel, the key to my heart is to visit as many museums as possible. From history to art and the off-beat variety, I want to take in as much of a city’s culture as possible. In Paris, there are countless museums, large and small, to explore. Each time I visit, I find myself revisiting old favorites while still making time to visit something new. Here’s a list of my absolute favorites for you to peruse on your next trip to Paris.

Musée Carnavalet

Nestled in the heart of the Marais, MusĂ©e Carnavalet is a time capsule of Parisian history. Housed in two grand mansions, it immerses visitors in the city’s evolution through a captivating collection of artifacts, paintings, and reconstructed period rooms.

MusĂ©e d’Orsay

Housed in a former railway station, MusĂ©e d’Orsay is a treasure trove of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. From Monet’s water lilies to Van Gogh’s starry nights, the museum showcases the evolution of art from the mid-19th to early 20th century.

Louvre Museum

The Louvre, a cultural icon, needs no introduction. Home to the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, it’s the world’s largest art museum. Spanning centuries and civilizations, the Louvre is a journey through art and history beneath the iconic glass pyramid.

The Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, is a haven for fashion enthusiasts. Housed in a majestic 19th-century palace, it exhibits a rich tapestry of fashion history, from exquisite garments to evolving trends that echo through the corridors of time.

Musée Picasso

MusĂ©e Picasso is a testament to the artistic legacy of Pablo Picasso. The museum offers an intimate exploration of the artist’s prolific career, featuring paintings, sculptures, and personal archives that unveil the creative genius behind the canvas.

As we bid adieu to this curated journey through Paris’s gems, this being the last of my Paris blog posts, I’m already daydreaming of our next trip to this incredible city. Next time, we’ll most likely have a little one in tow. It makes me all the more excited to create another generation of francophiles and a lifelong partner in crime to explore with.

Love from Paris,
Katie

Beanie || Sunglasses || Earrings

As December painted Paris in a beautiful subdued hue, David and I happily found ourselves with mild weather while on our babymoon. Although there was still a chill in the air, it felt like nothing compared to a standard winter day in New England. With the surprisingly temperate conditions and sunny skies, we had endless motivations to wander along the Seine and through both Banks. When packing for any season, Paris demands both style and practicality. If you have the pleasure of booking a trip to France this season, here’s my top packing recommendations that will help you blend in and look like a Parisienne.

Black Wool Coat

A knee-length or longer black wool coat not only provides warmth but is a versatile piece that effortlessly complements any outfit. Opt for a tailored silhouette for a polished and sophisticated look.

White Leather Sneakers

Stylish and comfortable, white leather sneakers are a Parisian essential. They pair well with everything from casual outfits for daytime exploration to adding a chic touch to evening ensembles.

Tissue Turtlenecks

Lightweight yet insulating, tissue turtlenecks are perfect for layering. Choose neutral tones like beige, gray, or black to create a chic base for various outfits.

Lady-Style Sweaters

Invest in elegant, feminine sweaters that can be dressed up or down. Think classic cuts, soft fabrics, and neutral colors that exude timeless charm.

Black Leather Pants

A sleek and edgy addition to your winter wardrobe, black leather pants can effortlessly elevate your style. They’re versatile, transitioning seamlessly from daytime casual with sneakers to evening chic with heels.

Oversized Sweaters

Perfect for a cozy, relaxed vibe, oversized sweaters are great for casual outings. Pair them with skinny jeans or a flouncy skirt for a balanced silhouette.

Satin Midi Skirts

Bring a touch of sophistication to your winter wardrobe with satin midi skirts. They can be dressed up with a pair of heels for a night out or down with sneakers for a daytime look.

A Classic Pair of Heels

For more formal occasions or when you want to add a touch of glamour, a classic pair of heels is a must. Black or nude pumps are versatile choices that can elevate any outfit.

Chic Sunglasses

Even in winter, the Parisian sun can be bright. Choose a stylish pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes while adding an effortlessly chic element to your look.

Crossbody Handbag

A crossbody bag is both practical and stylish for navigating the city. Choose a medium-sized one in a neutral tone that complements your coat and other accessories.

Warm Beanies

A cozy beanie not only keeps you warm but also adds a touch of casual cool to your winter look. Opt for a neutral color that complements your coat and other accessories.

Black Chelsea Boots

Just what you need for rainy or snowy days… A pair of sleek and versatile black Chelsea boots adds a touch of edge to your winter wardrobe. They’re comfortable for all-day wear and can easily transition from day to night, complementing various outfits.

From exploring the gardens at the MusĂ©e Rodin to indulging in hot chocolate at Les Deux Magots, or even dinner for two in the Left Bank, these 12 items will help you make the most of your winter trip to Paris… Letting you look trĂ©s chic on your adventure.
