As my blog posts about our wonderful Paris Babymoon begin to wind down, I’m still canvassing through hundreds of the little moment we had and the pictures we took along the way. Paris is, if nothing else, such a truly photogenic city. From the film noir inspired cocktails at a roof top bar to simply exploring the tiny side streets on the Left Bank, I’m endlessly inspired by the City of Lights. If you ever hear people who speak negatively of Paris… That it’s over-hyped, the residents are rude, that trash is everywhere… Do not believe it for one second!

I think one of my favorite quotes from Ernest Hemingway truly says it best, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” As we returned from France and into a busy winter season, I strive to find the moveable feast wherever I go and make the tiny moments feel as special as an evening in Paris. Enjoy these little winter snapshots in Paris.

Where will you find your next moveable feast? It can be in Paris, New York City, or even right in your own backyard. There is so much joy in this world, especially for those who go out of their way to find it.

Love from Paris,
Katie

An heirloom is considered anything of value that is passed from one generation to the next. Sometimes, it’s something that has substantial monetary value. Other times, it’s simply something attached to a significant memory or moment within a particular family.

I was incredibly close with my maternal grandparents. They are a huge factor in the person I am today. While they’ve been gone for many years, I feel very fortunate to have countless memories with them to cling to and unique trinkets from them that I will always hold dear. The most cherished piece of jewelry I own, apart from my wedding ring, is my grandma’s signet ring with her monogram engraved. I save it for very special occasions to be able to pass it along for Baby Kennedy in the future.

A few months ago, my mom rediscovered a box of my grandma’s things. Inside was a beautiful silk scarf, lovingly saved and perfectly preserved. It still had the faintest note of my grandma’s signature scent, Charlie Red. Even more astounding was that this scarf still had the tags attached. It was an accessory seemingly suspended in time. After some extensive research, I found that the scarf came from a department store in Cherbourg, France, a port city in Normandy, and was purchased in the late 40s.

My grandpa was a career naval man and found himself stationed in Cherbourg after World War II. All of this family history woven into a simple scarf makes the item absolutely priceless. In a post-World War II Europe, I see my grandpa (in his uniform) thinking of my beautiful grandma, thousands of miles away, and shopping at a luxury department store to find her the perfect souvenir. Even through his regimented military-like discipline, my grandpa was a very thoughtful soul and a world-class gift-giver. I know my grandma would have considered this scarf too precious to wear, so she kept it safe. Here we are nearly 80 years later, with the scarf now an heirloom that continues to be loved by a third generation.

As I wore this scarf through Paris during our babymoon, I couldn’t help but feel that four generations of women in my family were present: my grandma, my mom (who gifted me the scarf), myself, and our future baby girl (who will be named after my mom’s side of the family). My dear grandparents sadly never met David, and I wish they were still here every day. Instead, I cherish the moments where I can feel their presence and reconnect with my family’s history.

Love from Paris,
Katie

In December, my husband and I embarked on a vacation that we’ll never forget—a babymoon in beautiful Paris. While the Eiffel Tower sparkled against the wintry night sky, our days unfolded in a blissful rhythm of relaxation, gastronomic delights, and cultural exploration. While this was our second trip to the City of Lights in as many years, it certainly had a different feel to make me feel comfortable our entire stay. Here are a few of our favorite highlights.

We Relaxed at Two Beautiful Hotels

Since I couldn’t decide on one hotel, David and I split our time between Le Grand Mazarin and Le Fantaisie Hotel. Both are masterpieces brought to life by the Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki. Nestled in the heart of Le Maris, Le Grand Mazarin welcomed us with opulent interiors and a sense of timeless elegance. Each day began with the warmth of Parisian sunlight streaming through the windows, and evenings ended at Le Bar. This hotel also boasts a beautiful pool, a rarity in Paris, that invites for a post-exploration soak.

Le Fantaisie Hotel, a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet side street of the 9th arrondissement, offered a contrasting but equally enchanting experience. The fusion of modern aesthetics with Parisian flair created a haven of contemporary comfort. Either of these hotels would be an excellent choice for your next trip to Paris, regardless of whether you’re traveling with friends, significant others, or little ones.

We Ate at Incredible Restaurants

Our days were a gastronomic voyage in a city renowned for its culinary artistry. From the charming allure of street-side cafes to the Michelin-starred establishments, each meal celebrated French cuisine. The aroma of freshly baked croissants greeted us at breakfast, while evenings were adorned with rich flavors.

Notable experiences included a culinary symphony at Allard, where every dish was a canvas of flavors, and a cozy evening at Bistrot Richelieu, a charming restaurant near the Palais Royal. Each meal was a testimony to the culinary prowess that defines Paris, leaving our taste buds in perpetual delight and our hearts in culinary ecstasy.

We Explored Endless Museums

In a city steeped in history and culture, our days involved a good amount of walking—about 15,000 steps to be precise. Museums were our playground. We found ourselves wandering through Rodin’s sculptures and admiring the vibrant art at the Picasso Museum. While exploring the Musee d’Orsay, the Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise exhibit nearly brought me to tears, highlighting his final months.

However, it was at Musee Carnavalet that we felt the heartbeat of Parisian history. This hidden, and free, gem allowed us to immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of the city’s past. As we strolled through its exhibits, we gained a profound sense of Parisian life across different eras. It became not just a museum visit but a time-traveling experience, offering an understanding of the city we love.

Our Parisian babymoon, wrapped in chilly days along the Seine, was woven with moments of love. In every cobblestone and every sip of espresso, we discovered the magic that makes Paris. Yes, that’s especially true in winter.

Love from Paris,
Katie
