Fresh Releases, Volume 4 (Tuckernuck)

fall, classic style, Tuckernuck, preppy, new arrivals

Printed Scarf || Capsule Bag || Feather Earrings || Silver Bow Heels || Tortoise Earrings || Blue Shirt Dress || Floral Ruffled Dress

Tuckernuck is one of those stores I just can’t get enough of! It is the perfect collection of classic and preppy pieces. Now that summer is starting to turn into fall, they are releasing some gorgeous pieces to make the transition with you. I’ll be heading to Newport, Rhode Island in less than a month. I’m hoping some of these will be tucked away in my suitcase.

Printed Scarf

This isn’t the first time I’ve raved about a statement making scarf. In fact, I posted about this exact scarf here. The colors on this piece are bright and bold, and surprisingly versatile. This scarf was originally released last year, but was so popular, Tuckernuck decided to bring it back for seconds.

Capsule Bag

This is a classic, leather bag with a new shape for fall. It’s no secret that I just love both clutches and crossbody bags. This piece has a little bit from both worlds. Giving an equestrian kind of feel, it’s a bag that will go with just about anything in your closet.

Feather Earrings

Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of feather accents, but these earrings really spoke to me. I’m thinking it’s the color scheme that won me over. A little touch of green is perfect for fall, but I’m already thinking about the future. Buy them now, keep them close by for any upcoming holiday parties.

Silver Bow Heels

These silver Loeffler Randall heels are an updated version of my wedding shoes. The closed toe makes them a great choice for work, but just look at that bow detail! These will work for your 9-5 life and whatever else happens afterward.

Tortoise Earrings

If you don’t have a pair of tortoise earrings in your rotation, now is the time to add them. I have on a pair as I’m writing this post. I love this particular pair because of the coloring, but also the classic shape. I haven’t seen them in person, but I’d like to imagine that they are very lightweight.

Blue Shirt Dress

I think making a chinoiserie print for fall is a tough task, but Tuckernuck has pulled it off with this shirt dress. It’s a great option for those in-between months when your heart says fall, but the thermostat is definitely telling you summer.

Floral Ruffled Dress

Sometimes a floral print really speaks to me. I simply love this dress and it’s at the top of the list for my Newport trip. The color scheme is just spot-on, but it’s the collared detail that adds so much. It’s equal parts lady-like without being too prissy.

Safari Print and the Concrete Jungle

Safari Print and the Concrete Jungle

safari print, Old Navy, NYC style, preppy

Dress || Wedges || Crossbody Bag || Earrings

Just take a look at this cute safari print! As soon as I laid my eyes on this printed dress from Old Navy, I knew it had to get into my closet. After a summer of florals and brights, it’s so refreshing to find a new kind of print to shake up the wardrobe. Giraffes, and leopards, and zebras, oh my! This safari print and the concrete jungle just go hand-in-hand.

Even better about this dress is the fact that it’s going to transition so nicely into fall. I’m wearing these with black espadrille wedges now, but a quick swap for brown riding boots would be just perfect. On a particularly chilly day, a crisp white button-down layered underneath would look so effortless.

This particular dress is a stretchy, ponte-knit material that Old Navy has pretty much mastered. I have quite a few of these dresses in my closet. They are perfect for work, but can also be dressed down for a more casual look. If you love the print, but are not sold on the dress, there are still plenty of options for you. A jumpsuit, linen shift dress, and cami are all available. In a more safari appropriate, khaki color, you can also grab a button-front cami and linen midi-dress. There are also a few options for men, girls, and boys. If you have your eyes set on a coordinated family photo, this may be your best bet!

If you are looking for a unique and fun print to add to your wardrobe, this is the one for you! I wouldn’t be surprised if I start wearing it weekly now, but can’t wait to bring into my fall wardrobe too. Which piece are going to snag up?

NYC Guide: Battery Park City

NYC Guide: Battery Park City

New York City, exploring, neighborhood, Manhattan, NYC, City Guide, Battery Park City, Draper James

Dress || Heels || Tote || Earrings || Bracelet || Watch

Because of David’s work and my internship, I’ve been spending a lot of time in Battery Park City, a downtown Manhattan neighborhood. Although we love our park-side apartment in the Upper East Side, this is our second choice. Obviously, it would be super convenient for David’s work, but there’s so much more to it. We love that it’s quiet on the weekends, on the water, and full of young families. It’s also a stone’s throw away from our favorite sports in Tribeca and Chelsea. If you happen to find yourself in Battery Park City, here’s a quick guide for an awesome day.

Where to Stay:
  • The Wagner. I can say from personal experience, this hotel is an absolute gem. Located at the very end of Battery Park, where the neighborhood meets FiDi, this hotel is situated on the water and many rooms offer unobstructed views of the State of Liberty.
  • Millennium Hilton. Right in the heart of the hustle and bustle, this hotel has another great location. It’s across the street from the 9/11 Memorial, St. Paul’s Chapel, and the Oculus. Their lobby bar is also a hotspot for people watching and good cocktails.

What to Do:
  • 9/11 Memorial. Although officially across the street from Battery Park, this site is probably one of the most important in the city. Making the pilgrimage to pay your respects is a must.
  • Visit the Statue of Liberty. If you want to make your way to one of the most iconic US landmarks, Battery Park is your starting point. Ferries to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island run multiple times a day. Even if you don’t make the voyage over, you can still take in the views from Manhattan.
  • Relax at Rockefeller Park. Yes, Central Park is beautiful, but there is something about being on the water that you just can’t beat. Rockefeller Park (not to be confused with the Plaza) runs all along the Hudson River and has several playgrounds and fields to enjoy the day.
  • Take a ride on the SeaGlass Carousel. I recently learned that the original New York aquarium was once housed in Battery Park. Although its home is now on Coney Island, this carousel has been built in its honor. Trust me when I say, this is a work of art.
Where to Eat and Drink:
  • Blacktail. Voted one of the ‘Best New Bars’ in 2017, this Cuban inspired restaurant exudes a lot of prohibition influences. When you stop by, be prepared to do some reading. Their cocktail menu is over 100 pages long. You can also grab some tasty Cuban bites while you’re there.
  • El Vez. Mexican restaurants will always get a star of approval from me. El Vez is located right across the street from Brookfield Place and is a great spot to share a pitcher of margaritas with friends after work.
  • Le District. Located inside the Brookfield Place mall, this bistro has more of a French market feel. If you’re tired from a day of sightseeing and just need a quick bite to eat, you will find all kinds of options here.
  • Loopy Doopy. This rooftop bar has become a staple for lower Manhattan. Enjoy views of the city with your one-of-a-kind cocktail. Prosecco with a gourmet popsicle sounds like a perfectly refreshing drink for a summer evening.

New York is absolutely filled with unique neighborhoods. Each of them have their own energy and character. I’m just about to reach my first full year as a New Yorker and I can’t wait to keep exploring.

Love from NYC,
Katie
