Hearts and Stripes

NYC, Style Blogger, Navy, Stripes, Jack Rogers, J. Crew, YSL, Red, 4th of July, Summer Style, Preppy

I never need an excuse to break out my go-to navy and white striped tee from J. Crew. I think I wear it at least once a week and it’s good I have three in my closet. Even with the summer heat starting to hit NYC, it’s a top I know I can always rely on. The Fourth of July holiday is a great excuse to wear this perfectly nautical tee.

I have a pretty consistent habit of keeping my outfits monochromatic and these paperboy shorts from J. Crew just add to it. They are probably the most comfortable pair of shorts that I own. I love being able to slip them on, like a pair of workout shorts, to run all around town. Just add this straw crossbody from H&M and my beloved gold Jack Rogers sandals, and you have an outfit that would work for almost any occasion.

The fun of dressing for Independence Day is being able to find statement making, red pieces to add to an otherwise normal outfit. I absolutely love these red heart sunglasses from YSL for just that reason. While I was hoping to find some star-shaped sunglasses for the holiday, these are the next best thing. They may be a little ‘in your face’, David can hardly believe that I wear them, but they were just too good to pass up and I will wear them anytime of year. I also own them in black (worn here) if you are looking for a more neutral pair.

The possibilities for adding red accent pieces are absolutely endless! For some fun earrings, I’ve been lusting over these floral beauties from Tuckernuck. I’m always a huge fan of a pop of red in the shoes. Whether you want something flat, like these red sandals from Jack Rogers, or a little bit more height, like these espadrilles wedges from Castaner, I’ve got you covered! Finally, since covering your head is oh so important in the summer time, you can opt to add this red-trimmed sun hat from Tuckernuck or turban knot headband from J. Crew.

Whether you decide to add stars or stripes, patriotic outfits are always a good call in the summer time! By simply adding, or taking away, that pop of red you can instantly change the look of an outfit and have a completely different style! What will you be wearing for the Fourth?

Love from NYC,
Katie

Red, White, and Eyelet

Red White and Eyelet

We’re about to head into one of my favorite holidays, Fourth of July, and I love all of the style that goes with it. Red, white, and blue is always a classic combination. It’s a color scheme I choose to wear all year round, not just on the patriotic holidays. Sometimes I have to take a good look in the mirror and say “Katie, that’s way too much”. “You can’t wear RW&B for the fifth day in a row.” And other times, I just completely go with it.

This red eyelet top from Madewell just really screams summer time! It has enough structure to be dressed up for the office tucked into a pencil skirt, but pairing it with my favorite jeans from J. Crew made it perfect for exploring the city over the weekend. Adding these white sandals from Jack Rogers gives just the right pop of color.

The good news is that red, white, and bue abound on the internet right now. That’s telling me I’m not the only one obsessed with the color combination year round. Almost all of my favorite stores have their own Independence Day shop online and my wallet is starting to feel the pressure. This red, polka-dot skirt from LOFT has been calling my name and would be perfect for my upcoming Paris trip.

If you’re spending your holiday at the beach or poolside, I would opt for this bright red and ruffled one-piece suit from J. Crew. As far as the most complete shops, I think that title has to go to 1901 at Nordstrom. Their red gingham button-down and navy sailor short combo is what nautical dreams are made of. A close second, for me, goes to Tuckernuck. I am obsessed with their navy firework clutch. Isn’t it just the cutest?

This isn’t my last post before the Fourth of July, but if you are going somewhere fabulous for your holiday, I hope you have the best time! Be sure to check back for the rest of the week to see more of my favorite red, white, and blue outfits. See you soon!

Love from NYC,
Katie

Cheers to Number 28

Cheers to Number 28

NYC, Style Blogger, J. Crew, Navy, Jumpsuit, Gingham, Tuckernuck, Preppy, Cheers to Number 28

Birthdays can sometimes be a little overwhelming. It’s another trip around the sun, another year older, and there are some hangups that come with that. I like to greet each birthday head on, but also stay thankful for what the previous year has given me. Last year, year 27, was an absolute doozy and filled with huge life changes. In a span of 12 months I got married, received my Master’s degree, and began a new life in New York with a new job. Now that I’m 28, I started to wonder if there’s anyway that this year can top the last. I think, the answer is YES!

While this year doesn’t have such huge milestone and life events lined up, I’m so excited for the smaller things that will come my way. David and I are approaching our first wedding anniversary and navigating through married life is always an ongoing endeavor. We’ve talked about a timeline for starting a family in the future. Although we know we’re not quite ready for it yet, sorry mom and dad, we are going to take the time to hopefully travel both domestically and abroad.

Maybe it’s the eternal optimist in me, but I truly believe that this year is going to be a huge turning point. Many new opportunities, in different facets of my life, are starting to line up and I feel like I’ve been working overtime to reach my goals. It’s scary. Actually, it’s absolutely terrifying, but I am so thankful for the constant support from my husband, parents, and close friends. There’s a cliche that goes something like, “do something that scares you once a day”. Friends, I feel like I am living that mantra. I’ve never been a stranger to putting myself out there, but now it seems I’ve become close friends with that mindset. I hate to cloak everything in mystery, but will unveil all when it is appropriate.

Will an older, wiser Katie stop wearing navy? Absolutely not! Somethings about me probably will never change and this is one of them. On a much lighter note, I had an amazingly low-key birthday. Donning this navy jumpsuit from Nordstrom, we ate at an Italian restaurant in the UES. Our meal at Grazie was simply delicious and we wondered why it took so long to get there.

Love from NYC,
Katie
