Even though I’ve already started the Christmas kick this week, to me, nothing beats Thanksgiving! The holiday revolves entirely around family, food, and just a little bit of football (no gifts required). Sadly, I just realized that this will be my first Thanksgiving away from my parents and it may be a bittersweet day. Absolutely nothing beats my dad’s cooking and my mom’s cranberry relish salad is the most cherished Thanksgiving day tradition I can think of. I’m going to try and make it myself, but I don’t think I’ll be able to come close to the original. Short of FaceTiming my parents for the entire day, does anyone has any tips for spending Thanksgiving away from family?

This year’s plan is for David and I to lay low in the city, either embracing or hiding from the Macy’s Day Parade crowds. Our kitchen and bar cart will be full stocked for a nice, quiet day. Even though it’s just the two of us, we will be well fed, no short cuts! The same goes for our apartments Thanksgiving decor. I normally don’t get too invested, maybe it’s because I actually get to experience fall and the leaves changing this year, but I’ve sprinkled in some sweet little touches to make our tiny NYC apartment feel like a cozy, Thanksgiving space. If you’re still need to grab some last pick pieces for your own home, be sure to shop my Thanksgiving Decor Shop Guide down below. You can just grab a little ‘Thankful’ banner from Amazon or a seasonal Capri Blue candle from Nordstrom. Both are both currently on display here at casa ‘Orange to Apple.’

Most likely, this year’s Thanksgiving Day look will be a casual one. Something that will be comfy in the kitchen or a walk through Central Park if the mood strikes. This mock-turtleneck sweater from Nordstrom is simply perfect! Even though it’s not my favorite color to wear, this warm orange just screams all things Fall and Thanksgiving. Luckily, it comes in 5 other more neutral colors, making it a great closet staple. To give this look more warmth and character, I just swished on my go-to navy Excursion Vest from J. Crew Factory. Seriously, I don’t it’s possible to wear this too often!

Love from NYC,
Katie

Even though Christmas is over a month away, I know a lot of people are wanting to get their holiday shopping done ASAP! I’m more of a procrastinator and normally don’t worry about Christmas until well after Thanksgiving, but I’m here and ready for you. Today marks the day of my very first Shop Guide for the holiday season and starting off with the basics… DECORATING! When you go into the store, all of the different styles can be a little overwhelming and I’m here to tell you, sometimes it’s best to go with the most traditional route. AKA, lot’s of red & green! I’m not sure what our décor is going to look like for the year. Our first Christmas, married and in a new space makes me feel like I have a completely blank canvas. As soon as I have it all figured out, I’ll be sure to share.

Starting on my annual Gift Guides also means I need to start dressing the part. I have so much content planned out to meet all of your holiday needs from Office Christmas Parties (both tacky & fancy) to Family Get Togethers. My first look is this perfectly cozy outfit to wear any day during the holidays and beyond (if you change the accessory colors). This hunter green sweater from H&M is the perfect Christmas tree hue and pairs so nicely with some festive red ballet flats from J. Crew and a turban-style headband from Anthropologie. This time of year also calls for the merriest of red lipsticks. I’ve been wearing the Velvet Matte Lipstick in Mysterious Red from NARS for a few years now and it’s always one of my favorites.

To get yourself caught up on Holiday décor, be sure to take a peak at my Shop Guide below. I’ve rounded up all of my favorite traditional, green & red pieces. I even linked the Christmas tree we bought and the cutest flannel sheet set that I’ve ever seen. I just can’t live without it! Is anyone else obsessed with woody station wagons? Just add a little Christmas and I’m sold!

Love from NYC,
Katie
