The new season has brought around a new color obsession and I have the Duchess of Sussex to thank for it. The stunning and constant style inspiration, Meghan Markle, has been favoring a gorgeous deep green recently. I’ve been at a lost of what to call it, but I’ve heard the name bottle green be thrown around. While it’s not the most romantic or glamorous of names (like millennial pink), I think it really nails it. Placed somewhere between teal and hunter green on the spectrum, this shade is absolutely gorgeous and (I think) incredibly flattering on olive skin tones. I am by no means comparing myself to Meghan Markle, but I see us as having similar complexions. So, I’ve been looking to her for inspiration to play around with different colors and help me try something different other than my usual navy.

My spin on bottle green (pun) comes in this sweet little dress from Old Navy. At under $30, it’s the perfect excuse to play around with a new color. What I love the most about this dress is the silhouette of it. 3/4-length sleeves and a fun A-line skirt make it the most darling thing you can throw on for the work day. It’s a style I think the Duchess, herself, would be able to get behind. To make things even better, the stretchy material makes the dress as comfy as can be. At such a wallet-friendly price point, I may have to grab this dress in every color they offer.

For my heels, I decided to (again) copy Meghan and go with a pair of camel suede pointed toe heels from Sam Edelman. This color is always a staple, but something about this rich color makes it the perfect compliment to the vibrant green. Plus, because of the color, these heels have this magical ability to make your legs look like they are a mile long! I will take any help I can get in that department.

Finally, I was absolutely floored to find that my scarf of the season from Tuckernuck was the perfect accessory for my ‘Duchess of Sussex’ dress. The green tones in the scarf are nearly identical and the pop of coral is the perfect stand out for an already amazing outfit. I really have to give myself credit here, folks. I have never felt more put together and regal than in this outfit. The biggest lesson I learned today is that maybe I need to copy British royalty style more often.

Love from NYC,
Katie

Halloween 2018: Holly Golightly

Dress || Heels || Earrings || Eye Mask

A major perk of your apartment building being an old hotel… It’s pretty easy to get grab those long hallway shots and is perfect for a little Halloween post. The last day in October is definitely going to feel a little more authentic in NYC with the feeling of Fall in the air. Here’s the secret though, I actually really don’t like wearing a ‘costume.’ I don’t like wearing pounds of makeup, I don’t like spending money on a one-time use costume, and I don’t take it as an opportunity to dress more racy. At the same time, I fully understand that it’s kind of required and I try to participate in the most low-key way possible.

Last year, I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter and it could not have been easier. All you needed was a chambray button-down, jeans, and your favorite shade of red lipstick. The only purchase I needed to make was a red headband, costing me a whopping $6.

This year, I’m wanting to stay with that low-cost, low maintenance swing, but try to give you a few more options. I’m thinking at least three costume ideas should do the trick. I’d also like to note that comfort will always be a big name in my costume game.

Today’s costume recipe is 1 white shirt dress, 1 pair of tasseled earrings, 1 sleepy eye mask and your favorite pair of classic shoes. For my Audrey Hepburn fans, this outfit needs no introduction. Everyone else, definitely be sure to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s at least once if you decide to rock it. Apart from Holly Golightly’s signature little black dress, this may be her most recognizable outfit and definitely one of the most defining.

The best part of this ensemble is that I’m willing to bet you have everything (minus the eye mask) already in your closet. It’s all made up of pretty standard, staple pieces. The biggest investment I had to make was just the eye mask and at under $30 it’s hardly going to break the bank. In fact, now that it’s mine, I’ll be wearing it like there’s no tomorrow. Yes, that means being that person on the airplane. After all, a girl’s got to get her beauty rest!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Holly Golightly’s sense of style has no shortage of costume ideas. I’m thinking classic movies, in general, isn’t a bad place to pull inspiration from. What do you think?

Love from NYC,
Katie

Is it normal to celebrate a vacation MONTHS in advance? Well, that’s pretty much what I’m doing with today’s post. Last week I booked a trip to return to the city that will always have my heart: New Orleans! Officially, we’ll be there to celebrate the 50th New Orleans Jazz Fest in April, but you know we’ll be visiting all of our favorite restaurants, bars, and nooks while we’re in town.

My first trip was a girl’s trip with my mom for my 21st birthday and I’ve been going back at least two times a year since then. I think one year I squeezed in three trips just by chance. It’s always an interesting conversation to have with your boss about how you spend all of your few personal days going to one city.

Since I’m completely jazzed about returning to the Crescent City, I wanted to share some of my favorite New Orleans and Louisiana based accounts with you. I’m always looking for more on my IG feed. So, if I’m missing something good, be sure to let me know!

  • Haute of the Rack: This recent bride, Jennifer, is one of the cutest bloggers out there! She goes on some of the most envy-worthy trips and I just love how relatable she is.
  • A Pinch of Lovely: Just down the river in Baton Rouge, Krystal has an IG page that will make you instantly fall in love. I can only describe her style as timeless, but still incredibly down-to-earth and real. AKA, someone everyone should be following!
  • The Grove Street Press: When in New Orleans, this design shop has to be on your list of places to visit. They have a little something for everyone and every occasion. Bonus points, their store in the Warehouse District is perfectly historic and dripping with charm. Just say the word, and I’m willing to move in.
  • Nola Val: I’ve just recently started following Valerie, but seriously wonder why I’m so late to the game. Her pictures are everything you should love about New Orlean’s architecture and history. Plus, you can visit her Etsy page and bring one of her photos to your home.
  • David Nola: I am officially declaring David the king of New Orleans photography. Every time one of his pictures pops onto my feed, I instantly have a smile on my face and desperately wish I had the ability to teleport. He perfectly captures the spirit of the city.

When I visit, in April, I’m going to send so much content your way to help bring the city alive! I know that’s a long way off, but until then, if you have any questions, requests, or recommendations, be sure to let me know!

Love from NYC,
Katie

P.S. When your favorite store (J. Crew) makes a tee for your favorite city, is there any way you can really resist?
