In the summer, I can definitely say that I practically live in gingham. It’s the perfect pattern to wear on a hot summer day and the breezier the better! Since I’m clearly in denial that Fall is actually here, I wanted to try to think of a way to rewear my flowiest of gingham pieces, this midi faux-wrap skirt from LOFT. The color is the saving grace of this skirt. Black instantly looks more ready for colder weather and I had just the top to pair with it. If this silk button down shirt from J. Crew isn’t in your closet yet, you need to get shopping right away! It comes in 5 gorgeous colors and is simply such a good staple to have. I’ve recently figured out that gingham also comes in flannel. Duh Katie! I guess I’ll have to go shopping ASAP.

I have been wearing these loafers that I snagged from the Nordstrom sale over and over again! They are from Louise et Cie, but I think they make for the perfect Gucci dupe. When I was in Italy this summer, I had convinced myself that I was coming home with a pair of Gucci loafers to call my own. I think I sat in one of their Rome stores for over an hour trying to decide what to do… I absolutely loved them, but hated how their particular style looked on my feet. I couldn’t explain it, but knew I was not ready to drop so much money on a pair of shoes I wasn’t 100% in love with. The Louise et Cie pair made for a great alternative. I love the honeycomb detail on the buckle and, once I broke them in, they became one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I have in my closet. I’ve been eyeing the same style in Maroon for a while now and may just have to pull the trigger!

Now, on to my favorite accessory and partner-in-crime, Tripp! You meet him for the first time in this post back in Spring, but I think he needed another time to shine. I would not be functioning during this transition to NYC without my pup. I mean, just look at him! That face of his is the best thing to come home to after a day of running around the city. Now, one of the biggest questions I get is, how has he adjusted to city living? After all, he is just a country dog from Alabama who had a pretty sweet life living in the Sunshine State. Well, I’m pretty sure he absolutely loves it here! Basset Hounds are a pretty rare sight in the Big Apple, especially one as big as him, and people are always wanting to stop us and say hi on our walks. Tripp just eats up all of the attention, but I’m thinking it’s starting to go to his head. “No Tripp, you’re actually not a celebrity and you’re public is not waiting for you outside.” Because we live right next to Central Park, Tripp is still able to enjoy some green space every once in a while and now that the weather is getting cooler, our walks are finally able to get a little longer.

Yep, life is pretty good for the world’s largest Basset Hound and city life definitely suites him. He has never seen snow before and I can only imagine how he’s going to react to that. Don’t worry, I’m going to be the weird dog-mom and capture every second of it.

Love from NYC,
Katie

Honeymoon Part 10: Sweden Quick Facts

Here it is, my last and final installment of my European honeymoon adventure. I know 10 blog posts seems to be a lot, especially if you read the last one about what we did in Stockholm (here), but there’s so much more I wish I could talk about. I just feel like I can’t put it all into words the right way.

It only seems right to finish up with talking about Sweden. Not only was it our final stop, but it stole my heart in a way I didn’t know was possible. I may have only spent 48 hours there, but I picked up on a whole list of tips for you when you visit. What can I say, I’m a quick study.

  • Home to around 950,000 people, Stockholm has racked up a lot of nicknames like the ‘World’s Smallest Big City’ or the ‘World’s Biggest Small Town’.  I can see where that comes from… When you get to Stockholm you’ll feel right at home.
  • Almost all of the Nobel Prizes have called Stockholm home since 1901. The one exception is the Nobel Peace Prize, which is awarded each year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Your favorite, giant furniture store, IKEA, is originally from Sweden. In fact, the building blue and yellow colors were inspired by the Swedish flag.
  • Did you see Mama Mia this summer? Surprisingly, another Swedish export. ABBA even has their own museum in Stockholm. In fact, Sweden is the 3rd exporter of music in the world, behind the US and the UK.
  • In the summer months, Sweden gets almost 24 hours of daylight, but it flips in the winter to almost 24 hours of night.
  • The most widely spoken is language is, well Swedish. Don’t worry though, nearly everyone speaks English, sometimes even better than some Americans.
  • While I’ve read that the Swedes can be really reserved, everyone I met was so friendly. Not everyone is a tall, blonde supermodels, but you’ll see quite a few of them. There’s also many foreigners who call Sweden home and it’s always fun to learn why they decided to make the move.
  • The Swedish currency is called the krona and it can be a little confusing if you’re use to the USD or Euro. Right now, 1 USD is about 9 krona, which makes the first bill you see a little bit of a sticker shock. Just keep your phone ready for a quick conversion.

My last fact about Sweden and Stockholm is by the far the most important. Stockholm is an absolutely gorgeous city filled with so much history and culture. While I got to explore only a fraction of the country, I cannot wait to go back for more.

Love from NYC,
Katie

Color of the Season: Mustard

Cami || Skirt || Jacket || Heels || Clutch

It was almost exactly a year ago that I posted this casual golden inspired outfit. God! Those pictures look like they were taken forever ago and I’m so happy to have more than a St. Pete alleyway to use as a backdrop. In that blog post, I claimed that ‘mustard’ was the color of the season and I’m happy to report that it’s still going strong one year later.

I’m refreshing my love for this perfect fall hue by giving it an elevated look. I know I can do such much better than just a t-shirt and jeans combo. As soon as I saw this skirt from J. Crew, I knew I was in love. The color is absolutely gorgeous on and in person. The deep pleats gave me so much movement as I trotted up and down Madison Avenue, but it was still ultra flattering. I felt like the color and silhouette both were a little nod to the Old Hollywood style that I always love. The dark color block detail helps pull this daytime skirt into a night time ready outfit. I paired my black cami from J. Crew and favorite Steve Madden and felt ready to dance the night away, even at 10 am on a Sunday morning.

I couldn’t resist adding my favorite Madewell denim to keep the look casual. I love how it instantly makes the look become ready for work, church, or brunch with your favorite girls. For date night, all you have to do is shed the jacket and you’ll be off and ready. Swap for a higher pair of heels for good measure. For the final accent, I added my go-to leopard print clutch fro BP. The bag’s warm tones were the perfect compliment to keep up with the skirt.

There’s no telling what colors are going to be on trend for this time next year. Some colors stand the test of time (think, navy) and others last one season before we move onto the next best thing. If I was a betting blogger, I would say that this rich, golden color will back year after year for the autumn season. Whatever the color or season, you can never go wrong with classic silhouettes and a handful of closet staples to make a perfect, timeless outfit.

Love from NYC,
Katie
