A New Look for the Blog

A New Look for the Blog
📍 Florida

Orange to Apple has a brand new look!

Orange to Apple, Palm Beach, blog, pink, sea green

I don’t think I’m a very rash person, but I know what I like. After years of a nautical-esque navy, green, and red color scheme for the blog, I just needed something new. What started as me playing around on Canva, turned into a whole brand new look for the blog. That means a new logo, a new color palette, and new branding. The end result is something that I think is much more reflective of my current style and life in Florida. Read on to learn about what sparked this change, why I made it, and what inspires me.

The Before

When Orange to Apple was first beginning, I was a newlywed Floridian living in NYC. A darker color scheme was a perfect fit for my life in Manhattan. Navy compromised about 90% of my wardrobe, so I obviously wore it often. Looking back, one pivotal moment was seeing the CAMP exhibit at the MET. The fashion was unashamedly full of pastels and bright colors that I missed having in my wardrobe. When we decided to move back to Florida in November 2019, I instantly saw a shift in my wardrobe. When it’s 70 degrees and sunny in the dead of winter, I have an excuse to wear my brightest color year round again.

The Inspiration

I’m still an avid blog reader. Each morning starts with checking my favorites to see if there’s anything new! There’s not enough time to list everyone, but I wanted to take a moment to highlight the women who may have sparked the inspiration for my new blog look.

  • Caroline from LCB Style: I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Caroline on my most recent trip to Palm Beach. Her blog also had a little revamp last year and it was probably my biggest source of inspiration.
  • Ashley from Ashley Brooke Designs: Another Floridian, Ashley has impeccable taste. Everything, from her recipes, her style, and her kitchen demo seems effortless.
  • Julia from Julia Berolzheimer (formerly Gal Meets Glam): What can I saw about Julia that hasn’t already been said? The woman is an icon and I’ve loved following her brand as it develops over the years.
  • Beth and Danielle from Palm Beach Lately: Clearly, I have a soft spot for Palm Beach! This sister duo makes blogging look so fun! While I always love their travels, I’ve loved reading about their collaboration with Serena and Lilly at the Colony Hotel.

My Style

You never expect your sense of style to make a sharp turn, but mine had a slopping curve. I wanted to dress for where I lived. Typically, Florida helps create visions of tropical flowers, crystal clear blue skies, and warm sunny days. As I travel around the sunshine state, so did my new pastel inspired wardrobe. You never know when and where inspiration will find you.

My Travels

Afternoons at the Vinoy Hotel, road trips to the Gasparilla Inn, long weekends at Palm Beach, these are some of my favorite moments since moving back to Florida. I still daydream about our trip to Bermuda and hope to visit Harbour Island as soon as possible. While I don’t travel strictly based on decor, it’s clear to see I have a running theme. If you have any other bright and cheerful travel suggestions, please let me know!

The Process

Working from home gives me ample time to work on the blog. I’m easily able to take pictures before and after my 9 to 5. I also began to notice patterns in not only what I was posting, but what I was happiest with and what was most popular. Obviously, the number of likes isn’t everything, but it’s an interesting metric to look at. Pinks, sea greens, and pale blues seemed to do the trick. From there, I began looking through Pantone to find a color combination that made me happiest. The hex codes #fcc0cb and #abddd8 have already been committed to memory! I found the perfect font and my new citrus logo was created via Canva. Even though my New York days are behind me, I still love the name of the blog, so Orange to Apple is here to stay!

What’s Next

As my blog continues to grow, so will my branding. I also have a mind to sprinkle this as we begin to redecorate our home. Later on in the year, I have some fun projects that are starting to take shape and my newfound inspiration will guide me. Until then, be on the lookout for more pastels, tropical inspiration, and Florida adventures. Also, feel free to shop around my color palette with some of my favorite recent finds.

Love from Florida,
Katie

2021 Resort Shopping Guide

2021 Resort Shopping Guide
📍 Gasparilla Inn, Boca Grande

2021, Resort, Shopping Guide, vacation, raffia, Roller Rabbit, yellow dress

Dress (also) (similar) (similar) || Sandals || Similar Tote Bag

This is a sequel to one of my favorite blog posts from last year, a 2020 Resort Shopping Guide. Living in Florida, we’re pretty fortunate to have vacation like weather for the majority of the year. It’s what brings visitors from the northern states in the “harsh” winter months. Visiting the Gasparilla Inn over the weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity to round up my favorite Resort Trends for the year 2021. Happy shopping!

Bright Floral Maxis

Clearly, I’ve become extremely partial to floral dresses. Slowly, they are taking over my entire closet. What kind of floral print or color is completely up to whatever personality you’re feeling for the day. Roller Rabbit always has some of the most gorgeous florals. The rich and vibrant color of this maxi dress added something new and unexpected to my closet. If you’re not much of a maxi dress girl, they also offer the same gorgeous pattern in a boho-style mini dress.

Straw Bags in Classic Silhouettes

I have a serious love for straw-inspired bags. They instantly add a tropical element to any outfit I throw together. Pamela Munson brings that to the next level by reimagining handbags in classic silhouettes. Structured totes and ladylike handbags are only the beginning of her gorgeous Spring collection. The scallop details on this particular bag are too good to pass up.

Raffia Earrings That Make a Statement

Raffia earrings are here to stay! I loved them last year and I still love them today. The biggest difference in 365 days is the size. Raffia earrings are bigger, brighter, and bolder than their 2020 counterpart. Because the material is so naturally light, you can truly make a huge statement without sacrificing your ears. These earrings from Tuckernuck combine two of my favorite things, raffia, and palms!

Natural Inspired Sandals

Staying with natural accessories, I finally took the plunge and splurged on a pair of Carrie Forbes sandals. I have been admiring them for so long! As I think towards the summer, they will be perfect for 90% of what’s in my closet. I’m going to dress them up and down, no matter the occasion. I suggest sizing up if you’re in-between sizes.

Comfy Linen Shorts

Move over chino shorts, there’s a new favorite in town! I wish I could have the entire rainbow of these J. Crew seaside shorts. The linen is so incredibly soft and the drawstring makes them feel instantly laidback. I’ll be half-tucking a Grayson button-down for an effortless Spring and Summer uniform.

Retro Inspired Swim Suits

Modest swimsuits making a comeback has been an absolute miracle! Never again will I struggle with anything near a string bikini. Instead, I happily gravitate towards high-waisted two-pieces and slimming one-pieces. J. Crew is always my first destination when shopping for swimwear. Their newest arrivals are in the prettiest shades of pastel. My current favorite is this bandeau one-piece in pink gingham, with a matching coverup.

Fluffy and Personalized Beach Towel

When you pop over to the beach, either for the day or afternoon, it’s always good to have the perfect beach towel on hand. Weezie is my favorite name in towels, both for the beach and beach. Pick your favorite color combo and have it embroidered for an extra special touch. Isn’t the pink just dreamy?

Vacation Inspired Non-Fiction

I love reading a riveting non-fiction. I’m a lifelong learner and sometimes a book full of new information is what I’m looking for over fiction. Whether you’re traveling to a fun destination or spending time at a local park, grab a book that is resort inspired. My favorite “beach” read is Bubble in the Sun by Christopher Knowlton.

As the weather begins to warm up, and travel restrictions begin to loosen, treat yourself to filling your closet with new vacation-ready pieces. Find the joy in shopping for new destinations. Happy travels!

J. Crew Favorites for Spring

J. Crew Favorites for Spring

J. Crew, spring, new arrivals, shop

Dress || Heels ($50 off with code SARAHFLINT-BAKATIE) || Clutch || Earrings

This time of year is particularly dangerous on my poor wallet. After months of brands gearing up from cold-weather styles, which really don’t apply to Florida, pastels and warm weather pieces return. Because of our sub-tropical climate, I get to enjoy these pieces as soon as they get home. It’s seriously one of my favorite perks of living in the Sunshine State. Recently, J. Crew launched the beginning of their Spring/Resort collection and I’ve been drooling over so many things. The first to be added to my virtual shopping cart was this stunning midi dress, which I’ll go more into later. Here’s a quick roundup of my favorite New Arrivals for J. Crew, just in time for any potential Spring trips!

Lavender Tiered Ruffled Dress

As soon as I laid eyes on this pretty dress, I knew it had to be mine! Hands, down it’s my favorite piece. It gives me a little flashback to a similar dress from last year, but the look has been updated with a midi length and pinstripe pattern. I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but I know this will be a fan favorite for the Easter holiday. Until then, I plan on wearing it for date night or just when I need a little dose of feminine style.

Floral Belted Shirtdress

In a very close second is this shirtdress in Liberty London floral. If you would have asked me a few years ago about my opinion on floral patterns, I would have said they weren’t for me. Oh, how much can change in a few years. Now, I naturally gravitate towards dainty and fine florals that keep adding so much character to an otherwise simple outfit.

Floral Ruffle-Shoulder Top

Again, more floral! The colors in this printed and ruffled blouse are gorgeous and I would love to see more of this combination. My new favorite dress also comes in the same floral. The question is, do I have the self-control to not buy it? When I find a dress style I love, I tend to go a little overboard.

White Slim Boyfriend Jeans

I’ve become a firm believer in wearing white jeans year-round. Actually, they’re probably the most worn in my jean collection. Each Spring, I take the opportunity to grab a new pair so I can wear the brightest shade of white. The past few years have all been about a boyfriend style and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon. This slim-fit pair is slightly distressed, giving it a little more edge than I’m used to.

J. Crew, spring, new arrivals, shop
Yellow Cashmere Sweater

Even in the Sunshine State, Spring can still bring you the occasional cool spell. It can’t always be sundresses and sandals after all. Having a few sweaters on hand can be a lifesaver, especially if you’re one to turn up the AC. I love these J. Crew cashmere sweaters. They come at a great price point and in a rainbow of colors. Since I’m all about brights, this yellow color is a new brainer.

Lemon 4″ Chino Shorts

I’ve been a J. Crew chino short loyalist since at least college. Because of the fit, the feel, and the colors, they’re the perfect pair of shorts to slip on. I’ve even been able to dress them up for a date night out. This Spring, there are new colors to love, including this bright lemony yellow. Pair with a coordinating cashmere sweater for a perfectly monochromatic look. Other colors I’m loving are sweet lavender and bright pink.

Pink Ribbed Bikini Top & Bikini Bottom

Similar to my white jeans, I always like to treat myself to a new swimsuit each year. You never know when a beach day will present itself, but maybe that’s a Florida thing? J. Crew is pretty much my sole destination for swimwear, whether it’s a one-piece or bikini, I love it all! For this season, I have my eye on this ribbed bikini set in the prettiest shade of pink. The high-waisted bottom is always my preferred style and is just so flattering.

Gingham Detailed Sneakers

I happened to buy a pair of J. Crew’s Saturday sneakers on clearance last year. Honestly, what took me so long. They’re incredibly comfortable and are perfect for running errands around town. Especially since we’re working remotely, David and I walk a lot around town. These shoes have been up to the task and without the slightest blister. If you’re looking for a classic pair of white shoes, definitely consider these, with just a touch of gingham for good measure.

J. Crew, spring, new arrivals, shop

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Each week, they’re unveiling more and more new arrivals that make my heart flutter. Shop them for yourself and you may just find a little excuse to treat yourself with something for Spring.

Love from Florida,
Katie
