Our St. Pete Bungalow

Our St. Pete Bungalow

Blouse || Jeans || Sandals || Earrings || Bracelet || Coffee Mug

Welcome to my home! Since I’ve been spending so much time here, it only seems fitting to share my little St. Pete bungalow. Our tiny spot in the historic, Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Pete will always feel like home. That may seem strange, since we just moved back to the Sunshine City in December. What I didn’t share was that we lived in the same exact spot before he moved to NYC. Learning that it was available again was actually a huge factor in our decision to move back. It just seemed like the universe was telling us it was time. In light of all that has happened, I do feel fortunate to be safe in St. Pete, but if you want to whole story, you can read my recent post here.

I want to make a huge disclaimer and state that I am by no means an interior designer. If you want real interior style and inspiration, I suggest visiting my friend, Stacie Flinner, for that sort of content. As much as I love our little 660 square foot space, I obviously know it’s not going to be our forever home, but we’re perfectly happy living here in the interim. Because of that, David and I decided not to blow a huge budget on furnishings. Since it is such a small space, I can hear my mom’s advice to keep everything the same color scheme. That’s all fine and good because I feel the most at home with neutrals and blue tones. All of the walls are painted in Farrow and Ball’s Borrowed Light. I love the name, but I love the color even more.

Even though I wanted to keep to a budget, I had a very certain aesthetic in mind. Most importantly, I wanted it to be a quiet retreat after work. The blue tones help, but it’s the natural light that really makes it happen. Apart from the interior, the walls are covered in large windows, including two sets of French doors that lead out to a little patio. I counted 11 total, which is a lot, considering the size of the space. The sound of the neighborhood birds singing can always be heard in the background. It was also important for our bungalow to have a slight touch of coastal flair. I love a good dose of kitsch, but I really pulled back so it didn’t feel cluttered. Displaying souvenirs and photos from our world travels give it that final personal touch.

Our bungalow was built in 1930 and has the original doors to prove it. It sits nestled, next to a larger main house, built in 1925. Both were originally owned by a local church and housed the parish’s visitors. There’s a lot of rumors about who those visitors were and it’s on my bucket list to dig up the history of the space. I would simply love to be able to travel back to St. Pete during this time period. The Vinoy was just built in its signature pink color and the city was really starting to blossom. You know me, always the history enthusiast.

With Tampa Bay a few blocks to the East and downtown St. Pete a few blocks South, this bungalow is the perfect spot in town. We chat with all of our neighbors, really making it feel like home. I hope you enjoyed my quick little tour. Sharing more of my home makes me feel so connected with you, my dear readers.

Spring Style with Jude Connally

Spring Style with Jude Connally

Jumpsuit c/o || Similar Wedges || Clutch || Earrings || Bracelet

Spending so much time at home has led to a lot more online shopping and discovering new-to-me brands. Is there anyone else in that boat? Well, one designer I want to introduce you to is going to help you feel ready for the warmer months: Jude Connally. Whether it’s at home or jet setting, her pieces are made from the comfiest material to move around in. Called Jude Cloth, it’s stretchy, washable, and wrinkly free. What a relief to have a dress or blouse that you can literally throw on and go. If you’re a mom, teacher, or anyone who appreciates worry-free style, here are some of my favorite Spring pieces from Jude Connally.

Blaire Jumpsuit in Chain Link

Let’s start with this beautiful jumpsuit that’s made its way to my closet. Navy and white is probably my favorite color combination. It’s stark, crisp, and works for a wide array of occasions. Jumpsuits, in general, can be tricky, but I was so pleased with how this particular piece fit. The banded waist is subtle, but seamlessly holds everything together to make for something truly flattering.

Alyssa Dress in Pagoda Toile

With a serious love for both shirt dresses and chinoiserie-esque prints, this dress is a no brainer. It’s not wonder that it’s the next dress on my radar. Now that I know how forgiving Jude Cloth can be, I have zero qualms about snagging this piece up, and maybe even in solid navy too! The belted waistline adds to the whole 50’s aesthetic and is just timeless.

Ella Dress in Watercolor Floral

Having that perfect, go-to t-shirt dress in your wardrobe is mission critical! This dress would be my top pick. Wear it for errands, to work, or dress it up for a night out. While you’re working from home, it’s the kind of piece where you can actually dress up and still feel as comfy as in a pair of pajamas.

Nadia Top in Lucky Elephants

It’s easy to sell me on a fun and breezy tunic, but this print just really does it for me. The warm red and orange tones are a nice change of pace from my typical blues and will be a fun pop in any closet. It will look at home with a bright pair of white jeans or as a coverup with a solid swimsuit. You truly can’t go wrong!

Hadley Top in White

My closet will never have enough white tunics and blouses. Seriously, the more, the better. This top is a great take on a button-down classic. The possibilities on how to wear it are virtually endless!

Lulu Ponte Dress in White

It seems like Easter came and went so quickly, and we missed out on fun Sunday dress. The good new is we have all Spring and Summer to look forward to. That means white dresses to make your natural tan pop! The ruffled detail on this dress adds a feminine touch on an otherwise basic piece.

Lucia Pant in Chain Link

I love this chain print so much, I would take it in every style. Because of the elastic waist, you can think of these pants as a dressed up alternative to sweats with all of the comfort. What would be better during the WFH stage of our lives?

Sonia Skort in Bambo Dot

Even if you don’t play tennis or golf, there’s something so satisfying, and almost nostalgic, about sliding on a fun skort. Your friends will think you look so put together on casual brunches out, but really it’s just like wearing a pair of running shorts. This bamboo style is practically a neutral with the tan and white print.

I think the best thing to remember is that Jude Connally is a small business. During this wave of uncertainty, small businesses need our support the most. If you find yourself aimlessly online shopping, thinking of pieces for your next vacation, be sure to keep them in mind!

Katie

8 Ways to Lift Your Spirits

8 Ways to Lift Your Spirits

Mood, Date Night, Spirits, Optimistic

Dress (also) || Sandals (similar) || Clutch || Earrings || Bracelet || Watch

Just like everyone during this current situation, I’ve been feeling my mood ebb and flow. Over the course of a week, I can feel optimistic, stir crazy, frustrated, and so grateful. For one, this is yet another friendly reminder that all of that is perfectly normal. Overall though, I try to keep a positive attitude. Some days are harder than other, but so much easier by sprinkling in activities that lift my spirits. The list of possibilities is endless, but here are my 8 favorites.

Find a Good Book to Read

I was such an avid reader when I was a kid, but fell out of that habit in my adult years. All of this time at home has been a great opportunity to reestablish to old habits, like diving into a new book. My favorite genre is non-fiction. Reading about my favorite places and people makes for the perfect escape from our little St. Pete apartment.

Make a Family Recipe

When we moved to New York, my mom gifted me a cookbook full of family recipes. Normally, I would save them for special occasions, but cherished food is something that always puts me in a good mood. Better still, it helps me feel more connected to my family, even while we’re apart. My mom’s peanut butter pie recipe is simply the best!

Mood, Date Night, Spirits, Optimistic
Plan a Girl’s Trip

Since trips in the early summer are looking less unlikely, I like to give myself something to look forward to. Right now, that’s taking the form of planning different trip with my girl friends. Although I feel like I haven’t been doing much, I’m needing a vacation. Sitting on a Caribbean Beach, with a cocktail in hand, sounds pretty good to me right now.

Go on a LONG Walk Through Town

I know I brag about living in St. Pete often! What can I say, I love living here and the setting alone is enough to put me in a good mood. No matter where you live, I suggest going for a long, hour plus, walk in your town. Really take in the surroundings and make special note of restaurants or shops that you may have skipped over. I promise the blast of fresh air alone will be worth it.

Mood, Date Night, Spirits, Optimistic
Have a Themed Dinner or Date Night

Our date nights certainly have changed over the past few weeks. Instead of our typical Friday night out, we are obviously staying at home. Recently, we’ve been getting pizza to-go from one our local favorites, but I’m ready to start shaking things up. My latest idea is to recreate our favorite bars and restaurants from living in NYC. Bemelman’s Bar at The Carlyle and The Polo Bar are obvious choices. I’m not sure on the details, but when I am, I’ll be sure to share!

Master a New Signature Cocktail

While we’re on the subject of date night, let’s talk cocktails! I’ve been getting more and more adventurous in my weekly drinks. Trying new recipes is so much fun, but I still need to perfect the signature. Pick a cocktail that will be a crowd pleaser and you’re sure to be a hit at any party… When we can be around our friends again!

Get Gussied Up for No Reason

I know it’s so tempting to just hang out in pajamas all day. That being said, getting properly dress up, even with no where to go, feels amazing! That’s why I’ve been really mindful of getting fully dressed each and every morning before my work day starts. It makes me feel so much more productive and gives me that little extra motivation. My go-to uniform has been ladylike dresses in light and airy fabrics. They are functional, comfortable, and just perfect for working at home.

Have a Sing Along to Your Favorite Oldies

It’s common knowledge that music can greatly alter your mood. Use that to your advantage by playing music that makes you feel like your best self. I love starting my day by playing some 60’s or mo-town hits and singing along as I get ready for the day. The best days are when I can convince David to join along with me.

Mood, Date Night, Spirits, Optimistic

If you’ve been feeling a little out of source recently, know that I’m right there with you! Although we can’t control what’s going around the world, we can take small steps to control how we feel. I invite you try one of my favorites. I hope that at least one helps you turn around your day.

Love from Florida,
Katie
