Classic for St. Patrick’s Day

March 11, 2020

St. Patrick's Day, Irish, green, classic

Shirt || Jeans || Wedges || Clutch || Earrings || Watch || Bracelet

Next week may be my Spring Break vacation, but it’ll also be time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Being mostly of Irish descent, it’s one of my favorite holidays, and David’s too. We celebrate by eating a healthy portion of corned beef and wear our most festive green. While living in New York, it meant trying to navigate around the parade that took place almost right outside our apartment. Since the day to acknowledge your Irish heritage has seamlessly morphed into a party day, it can be hard to decide what to wear. I’m going to opt to keep my classic style with some sweet and modest pieces. Here’s a quick dive into my favorite pieces for a classic St. Patrick’s Day.

A Ladylike Dress

when it comes to discussing classic style, the first name on your list should be the Gal Meets Glam Collection from Julia Engel. She has been one of my top fashion inspiration for years and her line of sweet dresses certainly doesn’t disappoint. This stunning emerald green dress originally was released around the holidays, but it could absolutely make a second appearance for St. Patrick’s Day. Many cities host Irish-American semi-formal events and this dress would be such a crowd pleaser.

Gingham Shorts

Nothing says Spring more than fresh gingham. It’s a pattern I will always and again turn to. Normally I opt for navy and blues, but these green gingham shorts are just too good to pass up. What’s old is new again. You would look positively All-American (with a twist) by pairing these shorts with a crisp white button-down. I just ordered these shorts and cannot wait for them to make their way home!

Rattan Handbag

Sometimes your green can be worn in just a tiny splash! This rattan handbag is subtle with just a hint of key lime green. The pearl details give the purse a little bit more character and depth. Even if you decide to wear a head-to-toe white ensemble on St. Patrick’s Day, you’ll still look festive by carrying around this new summer staple!

Espadrille Wedges

I’m guilty of being a creature of habit and espadrille wedges have been my go to in footwear since moving back to tropical Florida. I have them in black, navy, red, and yellow, but I’m seriously lacking in the green department. No shade says St. Patrick’s Day more than a bright pop of Kelly and these wedges just nail it! Just like the handbag, you’ll be perfectly dressed for the holiday by wearing these shoes alone. They would also be great to hang on to for the Christmas season and more!

St. Patrick's Day, Irish, green, classic

Whether you choose Key Lime, Forest, or Kelly, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to try a new shade. Even if it’s not your color of choice, I’m sure you’ll have a blast trying something new. After all, everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

Give Tie Dye a Try

Give Tie Dye a Try

Tie Dye, 1960s, Groovy, boho

Tee || Jeans || Sandals || Handbag || Earrings || Bracelet || Watch

I sometimes like to think about what it was like in other decades. While I love the history element, I also want to see the fashions. Flapper dresses in the Twenties, poodle skirts in the Fifties, who could resist? One decade I always feel inspired by is the 1960s. I’ve shared my own renditions of the time with clean cut style a la Jackie Kennedy or the TWA Hotel, but there’s an other side to the decade too. The hippie culture first came onto the scene and tie dye has been around ever since. Recently, I’ve noticed such a surge in tie dye pieces, like this basic tee from Target, that I decided to try the trend for myself. Here’s a quick round up of my top pieces.

A Surprisingly Formal Dress

With Spring Break and warmer weather just around the corner, it’s crucial to have effortless sundresses for any occasion. This boho style dress is surprisingly formal for a day to night kind of dress. I particularly love the color scheme. The different shades of a blue make it a subtle and good first step into the world of tie dye.

A Slinky Camisole

For a tie dye piece that is taken straight out of the 21st century, why not pick this slink camisole? Again, the colors of pretty subtle and can work with a wide range of looks. The most obvious would be with a pair of white skinny jeans and a pair of espadrille wedges for a night out on the town. If you’re wanting to incorporate tie dye with something a little more unexpected, bring to work with a pair of navy pants and navy blazer. Looking polished and free spirited is a tough niche, but definitely possible.

Your New Favorite Sneakers

I’ve been a long time fan of Tretorn sneakers. My green and white pair have traveled the world with me. I swear, they are the most comfortable pair of shoes on the market and won’t break the bank. If you’re wanting to incorporate the smallest dash of tie dye into your life, these Tretorns may be the answer. If you want a stronger helping, and have a limitless budget, you’d probably be interested in these groovy sneakers from Golden Goose. Whether high or low, you can’t go wrong.

A Flattering Swimsuit

Some of the best places to have tie dye would have to be the pool or beach. I’m beginning to think my skimpy two-piece days are behind me and I was looking for a classic one-piece suit with a fun splash of pattern. It sounds like a tall order right? Enter this swim suit in the prettiest shade of aqua. I may love it because it makes me nostalgic for my competitive swimming days, but it’s still on trend.

Tie Dye, 1960s, Groovy, boho

As they say, trends are cyclical. What’s old is new again and tie dye is currently having a huge revival. I highly recommend getting in on the fun and adding some hippie inspiration to your life. Even if it’s just the smallest accent, you’ll feel tuned in with a new decade and the swinging 60s.

Sunshine Yellow in the Sunshine State

Sunshine Yellow in the Sunshine State

Sunshine, Yellow, Sunshine State, bright

Dress || Wedges || Clutch || Earrings

Let’s talk about Yellow. It’s a gorgeous color, that comes in so many different shades, but is sometimes the hardest color to pull off. You almost need to know what exact hue will work with your skin tone and hair color. Despite all of the struggles, a bright yellow is a color that I love to gravitate towards, especially in the beginning of spring. It pops with my dark hair and is one of the most cheerful shades you can find. Since I’m back in the Sunshine State, I want to see this sunny color more often in my closet. Here are four cute ways to add some yellow into your life.

A Sweet Sundress

I’ve been gaining inspiration from blogger Julia Engel in a major way. She has perfected the effortlessly feminine look with sweet pieces in a rainbow of pastel shades. That’s probably what really drew me to the this prairie style midi dress from Capulet. Admittedly, I was afraid it was too big. The sleeves just wouldn’t stay on my shoulders and when they did, it all seemed way too oversized. When I finally decided to let gravity do its thing, I simply loved the result. The off-the-shoulder look is demure and the baby yellow is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

A Fun Pair of Espadrille Wedges

I originally bought these bright yellow espadrilles from Castaner thinking they would be a fun accent pair of shoes to wear on occasion. Instead, I find myself wearing them over and over again. First off, they are so comfortable, I can walk in them for miles and not even get the slightest pain. This particular shade of yellow adds a great pop against navy, a fun contrast with other pastels, and helps pull off a monochromatic look. I bought three pair of shoes with me on my recent trip to Miami and these were the only pair I wore!

Some Sunny Statement Earrings

Sometimes the easiest way to incorporate a fun color into an outfit is with a dynamite pair of statement earrings! Since you shouldn’t have to break the bank for those earrings, you’ll love this pair from Bauble Bar. They are lightweight and on sale, making them twice as sweet.

A Handbag Perfect for Spring

I just can’t get enough of wicker and rattan bags. To me, they are the perfect epitome of spring and summer style. Since moving to Florida, they’re all I can use. Plus they seamlessly work with any carefree outfit I want to style. This particular handbag from Botkier is a great blend of traditional with modern. The accent of yellow is surprisingly versatile and will make it one of the most used handbags in your arsenal.

Sunshine, Yellow, Sunshine State, bright

The Sunshine State is the perfect environment to wear your brightest and most cheerful colors. If you don’t have that sunny yellow already in your closet, then it’s may be exactly what you’re missing in your life. To see my favorite pieces, be sure to shop below.
