Little Black Sundress

Little Black Sundress

black sundress, Topshop, gingham, Spring Break

Dress || Wedges || Clutch || Earrings || Watch || Bracelet

My entire life, I’ve been hearing about the importance of owning that perfect little black dress. Holly Golighly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s was the epitome of that lesson and showed me to keep the style timeless and classic. In my closet, I have no less than three or four LBDs for when the occasion strikes. Since I’m back in Florida, I noticed one style where I was seriously lacking! What about a little black sundress?

Even if you live somewhere with cooler weather, I’m convinced that a LBSD is a closet must have. In the summertime, it makes for a great dressier option if you have a fun date night out. On vacation, a black sundress is the kind of piece to wear while exploring your destination. You’ll look effortlessly chic, with just a slight twist of beach.

Finding a LBSD wasn’t something I did lightly. For it to be perfect, I was hoping it to be extra roomy, and with just the right amount of flow. This little dress from Topshop hit the nail on the head. It was oversized, making it very comfy, with a ruffled sleeve detail. Even better, the fabric has a sweet, sheer gingham design that I instantly swooned over!

Just like your standard little black dress, the options for accessorizing are endless! Personally, I know that I tend to keep things pretty monochromatic, but don’t be afraid to add a strong accent color! My sundress was just asking for fun, coastal pieces. So, I turned to two of the most used items in my closet. I have worn my bamboo arc clutch from Cult Gaia and black espadrille wedges from Castañer at least once a week since moving back. Going into the Spring and Summer months, I don’t expect that to slow down any time soon!

With Spring Break just around the corner, you’re absolutely going to want to be prepped with gorgeous pieces. By adding a little black sundress, you’ll have a closet staple that will work for date nights, work functions, and everything in between! Look for eye-catching fabrics, fun details, and a healthy amount of personality. It’s a refreshing take on an age old classic.

Polished in Pastel

Polished in Pastel

Valentine's Day, LOFT, polished, tweed, pink, sweater

Sweater || Tee || Jeans || Flats || Handbag || Earrings || Watch

Happy Valentine’s Day dear readers! While David and I have zero plans going into the big holiday, I hope some romance comes your way. While I may not be the biggest believer in the day, I still like to dress the part… for all of February. My closet and daily outfits have been a storm of pinks, reds, and pastels. If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know that’s not quite my style. I’m much more into blues and stripes and must really want to be festive this year .

No matter what color palette I decide to wear, I always want to look polish. Sometimes, that’s easier said than done. That word can mean a lot of different things to different people. For me, I like classic pieces, clean silhouettes, all with a touch of feminine. In a perfect world, that word would describe my hair, but that rarely actually happens.

I know I’ve been sharing a lot of tweed lately, but it’s simply one of my favorite fabrics. It can make anyone look like a million dollars and works if Chanel isn’t in your budget. With all of that said, how could I possibly pass on this sweet little sweater from LOFT. I swear, the colors are even prettier in person! There are touches of pink, purple, and turquoise, all against a creamy ivory background. It’s the kind of sweater you could wear every day and never have the same outfit twice. What can I say? I’m loving it!

The rest of the polished look comes down to the accessories. While jeans are the epitome of casual style, they look put together with a pair of ballet flats and a structured bag. Any pair of flats will do, like this pointed pair for Sarah Flint, but I never pass on the opportunity to wear my classic Chanel flats from Paris. Fashion mavens all of the world adore these heels and it’s not hard to see why!

David and I actually decided to semi-celebrate with a date night last night. We figured that we could try and beat the holiday rush. We sipped delicious wine and split a plate of mussels and oysters at Beach Drive’s Alto Mare. Although seemingly low-key, it felt so romantic. For tonight, I’m looking forward to a quiet evening at home with a bottle of wine and a good movie. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Walk Like A Teacher

Walk Like A Teacher

Sarah Flint, teacher, shoes, feet, heels

Tee || Skirt || Heels ($50 off with code BAKATIE50) || Similar Handbag || Earrings || Watch || Bracelet

Consider this to be my official love letter to Sarah Flint. I sipped the Kool-Aid back in October and I haven’t looked back since. You would think living in Manhattan, and walking practically everywhere, would have taught me a thing or two about comfortable footwear. That knowledge actually comes from six years in the classroom as a teacher. When you’re on your feet, constantly pacing for eight hours a day, it’s crucial to find footwear that will last. Sarah Flint is the answer! If you’re someone who is one their feet all day, here’s the top pieces you should have in your rotation.

Loafers

To me, this is the ultimate footwear choice. I had a pair of black loafers that I wore almost every day in New York. Sadly, they weren’t Sarah Flint and had to be retired because of the quality. Now that I have a hole in my shoe selection, my next pair will definitely be the Alysia. I can’t decide if I need the black or sepia colors. Either way, I won’t go wrong!

Ballet Flats

If you find the loafer to be slightly too masculine, then you’ll love the Natalie! Meghan Markle has been a fan for quite some time. If it’s good enough for royalty, then it’s good enough for me. The rich saddle leather color will work with anything in your wardrobe. I also saw a sneak peek at a light sand color that I can’t wait to see in person!

Low Block Heels

I am constantly getting question about how (and why) I teach in heels so often. The why is because I have several students who already tower over me. It’s really hard to manage a group of students when you have to look up to do it. You instantly lose a touch of credibility. The how is by wearing the Perfect Emma. I promise you, she really is perfect! I have the black suede pair (styled here), but I already want to add more colors to my collection. They are just as comfortable as a pair of flats with even more style!

Booties

If you teach (and live) in colder weather, you need a pair of functional and versatile booties. I don’t really have to worry about that now in Florida, but the Perfect Zip Bootie would be my first choice! There are two different height options to fit your comfort level. The rich black leather looks incredibly chic, especially for the winter.

Flat Sandals

Is there anything better than sliding into a pair of sandals for work? I can’t think of any, except for maybe making them comfortable sandals. The Grear is a Grecian, wrap style that will make you just itching to go on vacation. It’s exotic, but still sensible. I can’t wait to bring a pair on my big trip (probably Peru) this summer.

Hopefully, you do a little something every day to help you feel pampered. Splurge on perfume, trips to the nail salon, and spa days. While all of that is important, don’t forget to treat the base of it all, your feet too. If you have any questions about certain Sarah Flint styles and sizing, feel free to reach out! If you want to test the hype for yourself, use the code BAKATIE50 to receive $50 off your first pair.

Love from Florida,
Katie
