KATIE KENNEDY

Channeling Jackie at TWA

Channeling Jackie at TWA

It’s been a while since I channeled my absolute favorite style icon, Jackie Kennedy. I recreated some of her best looks in the Upper East Side and Newport, Rhode Island. On my recent stay at the new TWA Hotel, I felt inspired by the 60’s aesthetic to have another round of dress up. At the airport with her husband’s name sake, I couldn’t think of a better location to work the runway.

While I’m planning on doing a complete review of my stay at the TWA Hotel later this week, I want to introduce you to one of my favorite features. The Connie is a converted Lockheed Constellation straight from 1958. At the time, it was one of the fastest planes and even served as Air Force One for President Eisenhower. Now a days, it has been beautifully restored and serves as the hotel’s ultra chic cocktail lounge. It also is a simply stunning backdrop.

For this latest rendition of Channeling Jackie, I didn’t have to look much further than J. Crew. Her signature jacket and pencil skirt combo, that was wildly popular during this decade, is brought into the 21st century. Although now stylized for women in the corporate world, I could see this be worn by our former First Lady. Also, this royal blue is perfectly presidential!

To make this look truly in Jackie fashion, it’s time to turn to my accessories. Of course we can’t talk about the late Mrs. Kennedy without featuring classic oversized sunglasses. These frames from Karen Walker, which I’ve had for years, is a modern take on Jackie O’s. My monogrammed circle bag from The Daily Edited only adds to the 60’s feel. The only thing I’m missing is a pillbox hat. I actually had this matching hat ready to go, but needed to make for room in the my suitcase for some Christmas presents. Otherwise, it would have been perfect!

Can you tell I was having fun with these pictures? After I escaped the cold tarmac, and into the plane, I felt instantly transported back to a different decade. Oversized cushioned seats, lots of leg room, and a staff ready to serve me cocktails… If only modern daily airlines would take a few notes.

Jackie Kennedy will forever be known as the ultimate fashion icon during her era, but her style can still serve as inspiration in today’s age. Especially with so many celebrities showing way too much skin, I like to revert back to a little more modesty and every ounce of class.

Love from NYC,
Katie
