There are few places more effortlessly romantic than Chebeague Island Inn. Perched on the edge of the island, with sweeping views of Casco Bay, the Inn feels like stepping into a Nancy Meyers film set in Maine. Timeless interiors, golden light filtering in through wide windows, and the gentle hum of island quiet make it the kind of place where date night doesn’t feel like an occasion, it feels like the natural rhythm. During our stay, one of the highlights was a dinner in the Inn’s restaurant, an experience that perfectly balanced Maine’s rugged coastline with elegant dining.

About the Restaurant

Executive Chef Ryan Swarts, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America with over a decade of fine dining experience, brings a thoughtful approach to island dining. Whether it’s a leisurely breakfast on the porch, a relaxed lunch after exploring the island, or an intimate dinner as the sun dips below the horizon, every detail feels intentional.

The restaurant is beloved by guests, locals, and day-trippers alike, so it has a warm buzz in the evenings that still feels intimate thanks to the Inn’s cozy, welcoming spaces. With fresh, local ingredients at the forefront and dishes that highlight Maine’s natural abundance, the menu manages to feel both sophisticated and deeply comforting. Reservations are highly recommended, and after our evening there, I can absolutely see why.

What We Ate

Our dinner began on a surprisingly Southern note: warm, buttery pimento cheese biscuits that were gone in mere minutes. For my entrée, I chose the classic Steak and Frites, perfectly cooked, rich, and paired with golden, crisp fries that I couldn’t stop picking at. David went a more adventurous route with the Pollock Schnitzel, a dish that felt playful yet hearty, with a nod to Maine’s fishing heritage reimagined in an unexpected way.

Dessert was perhaps the most quintessentially New England note of the night: a slice of blueberry pie à la mode. Bursting with sweet, juicy berries and topped with creamy vanilla ice cream, it was the kind of dessert that makes you want to linger just a little longer, savoring the last bites as the dining room lights glowed warm around us.

What I Wore

Part of what made the evening feel so special was leaning into the occasion and dressing for it. I wore the Cosmia Dress from Hill House Home, a piece that feels equal parts feminine and timeless. To ground the look with a touch of coastal charm, I paired it with navy espadrille wedges, comfortable yet elevated enough for an evening out. Draped over my shoulders was a Marled Blue Americana Sweater from Tuckernuck, a subtle nod to both the Inn’s nautical setting and the cozy New England evening air. The outfit felt effortless yet polished, exactly right for a place like Chebeague.

Dinner at the Chebeague Island Inn isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience that captures the essence of Maine: relaxed yet refined, rooted in local flavors, and set against some of the most breathtaking scenery you can imagine. Whether you’re staying overnight at the Inn or visiting the island for just an evening, making time for a date night here is a must. Between the welcoming atmosphere, Chef Swarts’ thoughtful menu, and the quiet magic of the island itself, it’s the kind of evening you’ll remember long after the ferry takes you back to the mainland.

Love from Maine,
Katie
