Sometimes, my favorite blog posts and pictures are incredibly last minute. That just so happens to be the case today. Yesterday, I decided to go on a quick bike ride through the neighborhood after work. Old Northeast is full of all kinds of historic houses and it’s fun to scope out future locations and find some inspiration. I decided to swing by a part of the neighborhood I don’t get to very often.

Right behind the iconic Sunken Gardens, a St. Pete landmark, are a row of charming homes. They are all immaculately landscapes. What I did not expect to find is a full wall offering a blast of fun florals. I’m not kidding, the colors were almost impossibly bright. Pinks, orange, and purples were all complimented by a healthy background of green. I had to stop in my tracks, give myself a moment to take it all, and then scooted back home to grab my camera before an afternoon rain shower came through.

I shouldn’t be too surprised. The Sunken Gardens have been a top St. Pete destination for nearly a hundred years. People from all over the country would travel to our corner of Florida to take in a beautiful display of flowers. Even in January, there will always be blooms on full display and a friendly family of pink flamingoes to welcome you. While roadside attractions aren’t as popular anymore, it is still a treat to see.

Bright florals simply need a bright dress to pair with. English Factory has been one of my favorite brands for a while, especially when it comes to summery dresses. The fun colorblocking design of this English Factory dress instantly spoke to me. It also gave me an excuse to debut my new pair of Castaner espadrille wedges. I already have several pairs, and I’m already loving this bright red color. Seriously, they are are some of the most comfortable shoes that I have in my closet.

So, when’s the last time you went out and explored your neighborhood? Even if you don’t live in a historic area, take in the different features of the houses and maybe meet some neighbors. And remember, always follow the floral!

Love from Florida,
Katie
