We kicked off the season with a long weekend out East in the Hamptons, packing light layers, linen, and plenty of navy for a few days of beachside living. Between the fresh air, slow mornings, and sunset dinners, it was exactly the kind of break I needed. There’s something about the pace of the Hamptons—casual but polished—that always makes it feel like a real reset.

The Hampton Bays Beach Cottage
We stayed with friends at their cozy beach cottage in Hampton Bays, which is also listed on Airbnb. It’s the kind of place that feels like summer as soon as you walk in—wood-paneled walls, big windows, and a short walk to the water. We kept the windows open, played music while making dinner, and ended most nights gathered around the outdoor table with drinks in hand. It was low-key in the best way, and you should definitely be bookmarking it for future weekends away.
Sunset Dining on Shinnecock Bay
Friday night, we went out for dinner at a waterfront spot on Shinnecock Bay, RUMBA. The view was beautiful, with the light fading into a warm summer sky. We ordered lots of bites to start, followed by fruity cocktails and seafood tacos—classic coastal favorites done really well. It was one of those relaxed dinners where everyone lingers a little longer, passing around plates and splitting dessert. The food hit the spot, but what really stood out was the laid-back vibe and the view that made it feel like the weekend had officially begun.

Lots of Rosé
It wouldn’t be a summer weekend without rosé. We picked up a few bottles from a local wine shop, Wölffer Estate Vineyard and kept them chilled in the fridge for easy pours throughout the weekend. Whether it was a glass with lunch or something to sip while getting ready for dinner, rosé became a kind of rhythm for the trip—casual, light, and easy. It set the tone for unhurried afternoons and catch-ups that stretched into the evening.
Shopping Among the Different Towns
We spent one afternoon driving between Amagansett and Southampton to browse the shops. From cute local boutiques to classic standbys, there was a lot to take in. I picked up a new pair of loafers from Sabah, but have so much on my wishlist now especially from Jenni Kayne. It’s always fun to pop in and out of the stores, get a coffee, and explore a bit—even if you’re mostly just window shopping.

Relaxing Poolside
Back at the house, most of our downtime happened around the pool. Someone was always making a snack board, music was playing, and a stack of magazines made the rounds. We rotated between swims, shade breaks, and flipping through paperbacks. It was easy and unstructured, just the way a summer weekend should feel. I didn’t check my phone much and barely noticed the time passing. Brennan was having the best time, especially when the sun finally came out
Catching Up on Summer Reads
I brought a couple of books I’ve been meaning to finish and actually made a little bit of progress on them. There’s something about reading outside with a breeze and no pressure to be anywhere that makes it easier to focus. Whether it was stretched out on a lounge chair or curled up in a shaded corner of the porch, I found very quick moments throughout the weekend to read without distraction.

S’mores and the Knicks
On our last night, we lit a small bonfire in the backyard and made s’mores—such a summer classic! Meanwhile, the guys streamed the Knicks games on the projector, which turned into a whole event in itself. Everyone had something to say about the plays and we’re all cheering for the Knicks. It was casual and fun, a perfect mix of summer camp nostalgia and grown-up game night.
Fishers Island Lemonades
I brought along a few cans of Fishers Island Lemonade, which I haven’t had in over a year and quickly remembered why it’s one of my favorite warm-weather drinks. It’s just the right mix of tart and sweet, and tastes best ice cold by the pool. They became my go-to drink for the weekend, and now I’m convinced I need to stock up for the rest of the season.

It’s weekends like this that remind me how refreshing it is to get out of the city and slow things down. We didn’t over-plan or rush around, and that made all the difference. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of what’s shaping up to be a full summer—plenty more getaways are in the works, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Love from the Hamptons,
Katie
