It’s hard to believe that we were at the hospital just a week after these pictures were taken, getting ready to welcome Baby Girl. While a full Birth Story for our Brennan Ann is coming, I wanted to take a moment to reminisce on my sweet baby shower to welcome her into the world. I’ve long known that the traditional ‘shower’ format isn’t for me because I hate being the center of attention. Instead, I opted for a casual brunch with the grandmas-to-be and my closest friends at one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. The theme was Provence, France inspired with a healthy sprinkle of NYC and NOLA, three destinations I can’t wait to share with Brennan.

The Restaurant

Because I had family and friends traveling from all over, we opted to have my shower in NYC. It made it a little easier for my guests to reach the destination without relying on renting a car, plus there’s so much for them to do. One of my favorite restaurants, Claudette, seemed like the perfect spot. The cozy and rustic interior and a menu full of my favorite French-inspired dishes were exactly what a Provence baby shower needed. The food was delicious, and the staff, as always, was so kind, making my day feel extra special. This restaurant is always a top recommendation, particularly their croque monsieur. Don’t forget to skip the carafe of blood orange mimosas or mocktails if you’re expecting!

The Sweets

What is a baby shower without a few sweet treats? For our NYC baby shower, there was only one bakery I could think of that I wanted present. William Greenberg Desserts has been an Upper East Side staple since 1946 and a favorite of ours when we lived in the neighborhood. Whenever I ran errands on Madison Avenue, I would always pop in for a Black and White Cookies (or two) to go. The cookies served as a party favor, but the star of the show may have been the Strawberry Cream Cake. The surprisingly refreshing cake was a perfect way to end a wonderful meal with the closest loved ones.

The Favors

Besides being a family name, Brennan is also the name of an iconic restaurant in New Orleans. Although it’s been a few years since our last visit, it will remain one of my favorite cities. Countless memories have been made in the Crescent City, and I can’t wait to take Brennan on her inaugural trip. To keep up with the motif of our favorite places, each of my loved ones was gifted with a Brennan’s candle that smells like their signature dessert. Ordering a banana’s foster, with the aromas of banana and caramel, is the definition of a dinner and show. Alongside the black and white cookies, we had custom straw baskets for each guest.

Because Brennan’s Aunt Brooke nails gift-giving, I wanted to give a special shout-out to the vintage Brennan’s dessert plates highlighting their signature dishes. It’s safe to say that Brooke loves New Orleans just as much as I do. Oh, the stories I could tell our misadventures! I can’t wait to hang these up very carefully in Brennan’s nursery!

Following Brunch, we did what only seemed appropriate for our little family… Pop into an Irish Bar! David hosted his own lunch with my Dad at American Bar, another nearby favorite in the West Village. Afterward, our two groups looped up at Fiddlesticks for an afternoon of celebrating. It may seem pretty unconventional, but something just felt so right about the festivities. Now that our little girl is here, I hope we can instill in her the importance of laughing, not taking yourself too seriously, and going wherever the wind takes you!

Love from NYC,
Katie
