When the temperature climbs and the sun feels extra strong, getting dressed can be tricky. You want to look pulled together, but comfort becomes the top priority. On the hottest days, I lean toward easy, breezy outfits that let me stay cool without sacrificing style. This look I wore in Barbados is a perfect example.

I started with a crisp, sleeveless white button-down. It’s a warm-weather classic for a reason: lightweight, breathable, and endlessly versatile. The collar adds a touch of polish, while the sleeveless cut keeps it casual and fresh. When you’re in the heat, avoiding clingy fabrics and tight fits makes a world of difference.

For the bottom half, I chose a lightweight skirt from J. Crew Factory with a cheerful floral print. The fabric is airy enough to catch every little breeze, and the above-the-knee length makes it ideal for staying cool while walking around or lounging poolside. A pop of color or a pretty print is one of my favorite ways to keep summer outfits feeling fun and seasonal, especially when paired with neutral basics on top.

Accessories are where the personality comes in. I carried a structured straw tote, which instantly says “vacation” and is big enough to hold sunscreen, a water bottle, and a book. A comfortable pair of sandals kept the look clean and unfussy because on the hottest days, no one wants to fuss with heavy jewelry or complicated shoes. Sunglasses are, of course, a must, and if you’ll be in direct sun for a while, a wide-brimmed hat would be the perfect finishing touch.

When it comes to dressing for the hottest days, my formula is simple: breathable fabrics, a little skin exposure without overdoing it, a balance of neutrals and seasonal color, and accessories that are both stylish and practical. This combination makes me feel pulled together even when the humidity is in full swing, and it transitions easily from exploring a new town to enjoying a cool drink by the pool. It’s proof that style and comfort don’t have to be mutually exclusive, especially when the sun is shining and summer is in full bloom.

Love from Barbados,
Katie
