Dressing for Formal Thanksgiving

Dressing for Formal Thanksgiving

formal, Thanksgiving, New Orleans, Gal Meets Glam

Dress (also) || Heels ($45 off with KATIE45) || Handbag || Earrings

What you wear for the Thanksgiving holiday is just as unique as your family traditions. From laidback to formal and everything in between, all is welcome for Thanksgiving. Normally, my family has a pretty casual affair. We’re Floridians and the weather typically just calls for t-shirts and shorts. This year, the whole family is traveling for Thanksgiving. Instead of heading home to my parents, we’re all meeting in New Orleans for a fall vacation. Even better, my best friend is meeting us with her mom. It’s going to be such a special holiday!

The reservations at one of the most iconic restaurants in the city have been set and I want to make sure I dress the part. New Orleans is a typically a pretty relaxed city, but they know how to really celebrate holidays. You’ll also find some absolutely impeccable southern style. I don’t know how to fully describe it, but the street fashion is truly unique. There’s a whole spectrum of style, ranging from the eclectic artists to the polished city socialites. There’s inspiration everywhere in-between.

This gorgeous dress from the Gal Meets Glam collection would be right at home in the Crescent City. Although you tend to think of the partiers on Bourbon Street, there’s still a lot of modesty in New Orleans. This is particularly true with the southern mansions in the Garden District. I swear, the burgundy color is even prettier in person. Our Thanksgiving will be at a traditional creole style restaurant, and the classic silhouette of this dress truly fits the bill.

This dress originally debuted as my Marvelous Mrs. Maisel costume, but I obviously couldn’t wait to wear it again. Even though it’s a vintage, almost 60’s housewife style, it looks great in the 21st century. I simply love the bow details on the sleeve for a playful, feminine touch. It also comes in this gorgeous shade of blue that I think will work with any skin tone.

When it comes to holidays and occasions, Gal Meets Glam has become my number one destination. With modest styles and flattering silhouettes, there’s a little something for everyone. To see all of my favorite picks for a formal Thanksgiving, be sure to shop below!

Fall and Gal Meets Glam

Fall and Gal Meets Glam

Central Park is positively glowing right now! The fall foliage is at their absolute peak and I’m in awe of the colors. It feels so nice to get out to take it all in. More importantly, the change in leaves reminds me that my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, is just a few weeks away. I need to find that perfect outfit to celebrate family and what I’m thankful for.

This dress from the Gal Meets Glam Collection seems like it would fit right in around the Thanksgiving table. I truly have never met a GMG dress that I didn’t love! They are so timeless, but with plenty of character to get you a bunch of compliments. It was also such a great number to wear for a walk in the park to brunch in the West Side. Paisley is always one of my favorite patterns for the fall and this engineered print is so refined.

This dress was giving me some subtle 70s vibes and I knew it needed some tall boots to work with. While I don’t have any go-go boots to my name, my brown suede boots from Sam Edelman were the next best thing. The rich caramel color, I swear, goes with just about everything. With my classic faux-croc handbag from Neely and Chloe, I honestly don’t know what decade I’m dressing for. It’s a little bit modern and a little bit vintage inspired.

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. I want to make sure that you have plenty of outfit inspiration for turkey day. With such a huge emphasis already put on Christmas, I hope you can enjoy the non-holiday stress with me a little while longer. But, as soon as Thanksgiving is over, I’ll be switching over to all of the Christmas content you can muster. Trust me, it’s going to be such a fun season!

Starting Your Holiday Shopping

Starting Your Holiday Shopping

Sweater || Pants || Heels || Clutch || Earrings || Lip Color

Am I the only one who gets anxiety when going to the mall? I don’t know if it’s all of the stimulation from the stores or the sheer terror of the damage I could do to my bank account. I’m in and out of there as quickly as possible. That’s especially true during the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holiday season! My tree will be open right after Thanksgiving and I can’t wait to light up the Birchwood Pine candle by Nest. I know more and more people are starting their Christmas shopping, but I’m going to hold off just a little while longer.

Because I feel like I could go pro if Power Shopping was a sport, here are my best tips for shopping in record time.

Check Online First:

More and more stores, (Nordstrom, J. Crew, or Vineyard Vines to name a few) offer pick-up services It’s nothing short of a miracle, or magic, or both! All of your shopping is basically done online and your stress at the mall ends just by finding a place to park your car. Admittedly, even this is not an even feat!

Go Early:

Yes, I’m that girl who gets to the mall right when the doors open. It’s actually pretty great. First one in, first one out and I still have the entire day in front of me. Not to mention you’ll have the best parking spots, get to go into an immaculate stores, and work with employees who aren’t exhausted from dealing with customers. The early bird actually does get the worm.

Have a Plan:

This one is probably the most obvious, but have a list and stick to it! By going in with a game plan, you can cut down your shopping time like crazy. Don’t let the fun store windows drag you in. Know what you need to buy, put on your blinders, and you’ll be in and out in no time.

Shop Locally:

This tip may be a cop out, but there’s no better way to alleviate shopping mall stress than by avoiding it all together. In the past, I have recommended doing all of your online shopping, but anyone can do that. I’ve learned the value in shopping at boutiques that are local to your town. You can find so much of what you’re looking for, buy an incredible unique gift, and support your city.

To prove I’m not the worst of holiday buzz kills, I want to share an easy outfit that is helping me get in the spirit early. The red lace on these J. Crew pants is so rich and festive! Photos of it simply don’t do it justice. Although it’s a great option for all of your holiday parties, I secretly wish I could wear it all year round. Pairing it with a basic camel sweater gives the whole thing a really relaxed feel too. I can’t wait to dress more and more for Christmas!
