Rainbow of Winter Coats

Since yesterday seemed like the very beginning of cold weather, I sadly knew it was time to dust off my winter parka from LL Bean and get ready for another winter in the northeast. Since the city becomes a sea of blacks and grays, I’m so excited to have this gorgeous pink coat from J. Crew to stand out in the crowd. Pink may not be your first color of choice, but here is a complete rainbow of winter coats to fit your personality.

Pinks

I just can’t get enough of this shade of pink, but there’s so many more hues to choose from. It’s the ultimate pick if you’re going for a sweet and feminine look. Julia Engel is the queen of this style! Her pieces from the Gal Meets Glam Collection are simply perfect!

Reds

Is there any color more perfect for the holidays? Of course not! Right now there are so many merry and bright shades of red to help you keep warm. I recently brought home this car coat from Nordstrom. It’s going to be so fun to style!

Oranges and Yellows

This was the hardest group of colors to round up for winter coats. I can’t understand why! If you really want to make a big statement this winter, do it by buying a coat in a bright shade of sunshine yellow or orange. This coat from J. Crew was a huge hit in yellow, but is back in a beautiful coral.

Greens

There is something so beautiful about a bright green jacket. I’ve been itching to grab this city coat from J. Crew Factory for a while. Again, it’s another great color for the holidays. Even better, it’s 50% off and available in four other colors.

Blues

Since this is my favorite color to wear, it was a breeze to find lot’s of options for you! Every shade from navy blue to cobalt is out there. My pink lady jacket is available in this gorgeous sky blue color that I would love to add into my rotation.

Purples

This is another color that isn’t widely available for jackets. Once you find that coat, wear it with pride. Purple is the color of royalty! This coat from Talbots is my favorite shade of lavender and would be a great way to break up the winter neutrals.

When it comes to your winter coats, it’s always important to have a great neutral color for your every day. Black, navy, and grey are the perfectly functional and practical choices. If you want to spice things up, picking from a rainbow of winter coats can warm up a cold cold day.

Winterizing a Slip Dress

Winterizing a Slip Dress

Slip Dress (also) || Blazer || Boots || Handbag || Earrings || Watch || Bracelet || Necklace

A summertime trend that really took a hold of me was the satin slip dress, originally post here. My midi-length dress from Madewell was one of my favorite purchases of the season. It started as the perfect dress to wear while on a quick trip to Las Vegas and made a second appearance on a girl’s trip to Paris. I loved wear it for date night and even the occasional events in the city. Pretty much, whenever I had an opportunity, I would wear the dress.

Summer has long since been over and my favorite midi dress has been sitting in my closet just begging to be worn. I wanted to get one last wear in during the fall and before the real cold weather started. On our date night last Friday, I finally took my chance! That particular night, it was still very chilly, but my knee high boots from Sam Edelman kept me comfortable. Because of the dress slit, you got a fun peek at them as I walked down Madison Avenue.

My standard navy blazer from J. Crew seemed like the most natural choice for a coverup. Even though it’s typically a classic preppy staple, I still felt incredible chic and put together. My brown handbag from Neely & Chloe perfectly rounded out an easy date night look.

Speaking of date nights, David and I had one of the most magical nights in the city on Friday. I had been dying to visit Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel since we moved here. We finally took the plunge and headed out for a quick cocktail. We got there right before the post-work happy hour crowd and grabbed a table next to the piano. The interior is dark, but you can clearly see the 360 degree mural painted by Ludwig Bemelmans, the creator of Madeline. It’s his only public mural in the world and an absolute treasure.

We thought this would be a quick drink and then head home for dinner, but we were having the best time and wanted to keep them coming. The piano player was playing my favorite classics and took all of the request I would throw his way. The next time you’re in the city, this should definitely be a place you visit. The cocktails are a little pricey, but oh if these walls could talk! Some of the biggest names in NYC culture and beyond have grabbed a drink here too. Their classic cocktail is the Old Cuban, my personal favorite.

I still don’t want to be done with my slip dress quite yet and am brainstorming ways to wear it into winter. I’m thinking it would be so fun around New Years under a faux-fur jacket and oodles of costume jewelry. It’s always so exciting when you try a new trend for the fun of it and wind up having a new favorite piece! How would you style a slip dress for the winter?

Exploring Central Park

Exploring Central Park

Oh, how I love Central Park. When David and I were first scouting neighborhoods and apartments for our big move to NYC, I knew I wanted to live close to the Park. Little did I know our future Upper East Side apartment would be right next door. I honestly hit the jack pot! Letting myself wander and get lost is such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, but there’s so much more! Here are some ideas if you need to get some fresh air in Central Park.

Walk the entire perimeter.

If you’re in the mood to just get out and walk, then walking the entire boundary of Central Park would be a pretty good use of your time. Measuring just about 6 miles, it’s an opportunity to see very distinct neighborhoods (Upper East Side, Midtown, Upper West Side, and Harlem) and countless landmarks. Get your steps in!

Have a picnic on the Great Lawn.

Obviously, this may have to wait until the Spring again, but it’s such a great way to spend an afternoon. Grab a blanket, pack a basket, and picnic al fresco on the Great Lawn. You’ll be able to take in the skyline and have some incredible people watching. Every year, the park also hosts a philharmonic concert here for a magical evening.

Visit the Central Park Zoo.

If you loved the movie Madagascar growing up, you can’t pass on this opportunity. Even though you won’t find lions, giraffes, or zebras, it’s a great family destination. The seal and penguins are such a treat! Just a short walk from the Plaza Hotel, you can enjoy an afternoon tea when you’re ready to return the Concrete Jungle.

Have your morning coffee in dog heaven!

In the spring and summer months, this became our weekend ritual. Grab a coffee from any of the Upper East Side coffee shops and head to Central Park. Our favorites are Ralph’s and Butterfield Express. With coffee and scone in hand, we would make our way to the Conservatory Pond. Normally known for it’s model sailboats, this is dog-lover heaven in the morning. Basically an unofficial dog park, you’ll see hundred of pups running around and living their best lives in the city.

Take in a show.

Throughout the year, there is no shortage of events and shows that take place in the park. There have been so many Saturday afternoon concerts being held in the park that I had no idea were even scheduled. Some are little pop-up shows and others are huge music festivals. The summertime also boasts Shakespeare in the Park. It’s an unforgettable and quintessential New York experience.

Catch a boat ride.

It’s almost impossible to escape this Instagram shot, but it doesn’t make it any less special. Renting a rowboat at the Loeb Boathouse has become almost synonymous with the entire Central Park experience. For $15 an hour, you get out on the pond, see the city skyline from a new perspective, and get some stunning pictures in the process. Expect a crowd! My advice would be to get to the park as early as possible.

Central Park, NYC, New York City, park, explore, travel

If you ask me, Central Park is one of the most cherished elements of the city. No trip to New York is complete without a visit. It has been such a huge source of inspiration since it was founded in 1853. Think of your favorite NYC based movie or show and I can almost guarantee Central Park is part of the equation. Why miss out on a good thing?

Katie
