Red White and Eyelet

We’re about to head into one of my favorite holidays, Fourth of July, and I love all of the style that goes with it. Red, white, and blue is always a classic combination. It’s a color scheme I choose to wear all year round, not just on the patriotic holidays. Sometimes I have to take a good look in the mirror and say “Katie, that’s way too much”. “You can’t wear RW&B for the fifth day in a row.” And other times, I just completely go with it.

This red eyelet top from Madewell just really screams summer time! It has enough structure to be dressed up for the office tucked into a pencil skirt, but pairing it with my favorite jeans from J. Crew made it perfect for exploring the city over the weekend. Adding these white sandals from Jack Rogers gives just the right pop of color.

The good news is that red, white, and bue abound on the internet right now. That’s telling me I’m not the only one obsessed with the color combination year round. Almost all of my favorite stores have their own Independence Day shop online and my wallet is starting to feel the pressure. This red, polka-dot skirt from LOFT has been calling my name and would be perfect for my upcoming Paris trip.

If you’re spending your holiday at the beach or poolside, I would opt for this bright red and ruffled one-piece suit from J. Crew. As far as the most complete shops, I think that title has to go to 1901 at Nordstrom. Their red gingham button-down and navy sailor short combo is what nautical dreams are made of. A close second, for me, goes to Tuckernuck. I am obsessed with their navy firework clutch. Isn’t it just the cutest?

This isn’t my last post before the Fourth of July, but if you are going somewhere fabulous for your holiday, I hope you have the best time! Be sure to check back for the rest of the week to see more of my favorite red, white, and blue outfits. See you soon!

Love from NYC,
Katie

Cheers to Number 28

Cheers to Number 28

Birthdays can sometimes be a little overwhelming. It’s another trip around the sun, another year older, and there are some hangups that come with that. I like to greet each birthday head on, but also stay thankful for what the previous year has given me. Last year, year 27, was an absolute doozy and filled with huge life changes. In a span of 12 months I got married, received my Master’s degree, and began a new life in New York with a new job. Now that I’m 28, I started to wonder if there’s anyway that this year can top the last. I think, the answer is YES!

While this year doesn’t have such huge milestone and life events lined up, I’m so excited for the smaller things that will come my way. David and I are approaching our first wedding anniversary and navigating through married life is always an ongoing endeavor. We’ve talked about a timeline for starting a family in the future. Although we know we’re not quite ready for it yet, sorry mom and dad, we are going to take the time to hopefully travel both domestically and abroad.

Maybe it’s the eternal optimist in me, but I truly believe that this year is going to be a huge turning point. Many new opportunities, in different facets of my life, are starting to line up and I feel like I’ve been working overtime to reach my goals. It’s scary. Actually, it’s absolutely terrifying, but I am so thankful for the constant support from my husband, parents, and close friends. There’s a cliche that goes something like, “do something that scares you once a day”. Friends, I feel like I am living that mantra. I’ve never been a stranger to putting myself out there, but now it seems I’ve become close friends with that mindset. I hate to cloak everything in mystery, but will unveil all when it is appropriate.

Will an older, wiser Katie stop wearing navy? Absolutely not! Somethings about me probably will never change and this is one of them. On a much lighter note, I had an amazingly low-key birthday. Donning this navy jumpsuit from Nordstrom, we ate at an Italian restaurant in the UES. Our meal at Grazie was simply delicious and we wondered why it took so long to get there.

Love from NYC,
Katie

Lilly Pulitzer Summer Remix

Lilly Pulitzer Summer Remix

NYC, Style Blogger, Lilly Pulitzer, Skinny Dipping, Preppy, Jack Rogers, Tuckernuck, Pink

Dress || Sandals || Clutch || Scarf || Earrings || Bracelet

Between National Wear Your Lilly Day and yesterday’s National Pink Day, I bet your social media has been positively flooded with all kinds of bright and cheerful outfits. Pencil me in for one more because as soon as I saw this Lilly Pulitzer slip dress, I knew I just had to get in on the fun (again). I occasionally chat about my love for this company, but this latest collection is something truly special. It was dubbed the Summer Remix Collection. They went into the vault to bring back five of their most popular prints and one “new” patchwork. Let’s meet the prints!

NYC, Style Blogger, Lilly Pulitzer, Skinny Dipping, Preppy, Jack Rogers, Tuckernuck, Pink
  • Skinny Dippin’: Of course I should start out with my personal favorite! Originally released in 2011, this print is one of their most scandalous. It’s probably why I love it so! Be on the lookout for some cheeky (pun intended) imagery in a perfect summer scene. Although the color is more vibrant than the original, it will still look amazing with a suntan and white accents. I actually own three pieces from the original, but if you really want me to go crazy for this print, I think it should come in a blue color scheme!
  • Into The Deep: This print is the most recent flashback, from 2016. Made up of a gorgeous combination of different sea critters, it’s the main color of the print that really blows me away. Seriously, the blue is a showstopper! Including pieces for infants and young girls, this print would look absolutely amazing for a summer time family portrait.
  • In The Beginning: If you want to buy a piece that is quintessential Lilly, this is the pattern it should come in! As the name implies, it tells the story of the brand’s beginning with the iconic words, “it all started with a juice stand.” The print is more pastel than the original, but equally as pretty. This print is the ultimate tribute to the namesake’s legacy.
  • Red Right Return: There is no limit to how many pieces I could own in this pattern. Can you really blame me though? This nautical print is just begging to be worn, especially around patriotic holidays. Probably the most casual print in the new collection, they offer three fun dresses, a romper for you and your little one, plus matching long-sleeve tees that will make a great beach cover-up.
  • Coronado Crab: This print is ten years young, but just as pretty as ever. It was originally part of the Jubilee collection to mark the company’s 50th anniversary and was wildly popular. To make a statement, you can grab this print in a daring maxi-romper or keep it casual with a button-down shirt dress. Either way, you can’t go wrong!
  • Summer Remix Patchwork: And finally, the pièce de résistance. This stunning patchwork is a compilation of twelve beloved prints. Some of them are listed above while others hopefully are in the process of coming back for a second life. All of the colors blend together to create something that is truly unique and one-of-a-kind Lilly Pulitzer. If you get only one piece from this entire collection, I highest suggest Summer Remix! Don’t wait though! I have it on good authority that this print is flying off the rack!

Wearing Lilly Pulitzer is sometimes the first sign of summer and is supposed to invoke a time of joy and good times. No matter what print from this latest collection you pick, you’ll accomplish all of that and then some! Which pattern will you pick?

Love from NYC,
Katie
