Summer Garden Parties

Summer Garden Parties

I’m so used to Spring being gone in a blink of an eye and leading way to a long Summer. It’s been such a treat to enjoy cool morning walks to work and warmer afternoons in the park. Summer is making its way to New York City. To celebrate the season, it seems like outdoor events are popping up left and right. From impromptu get-togethers on our terrace or semi-formal parties at my favorite museums, it feels so good to celebrate outside!

A really popular party theme I’ve been noticing is the garden party. It may be my favorite way to celebrate Summer… With a gorgeous outdoor space, beautiful blooms, and fruity cocktails to match. The annual Garden Party at the Cooper-Hewitt looks like it’s just what I’m looking for! Getting together in your garden best to see a new art exhibit sounds like a great way to spend a Thursday.

Even if you don’t have summer party in the future and simply want a fun, floral addition to your wardrobe, this jumpsuit should be your pick! Gal Meets Glam made a dress in this print last year and I seriously regretted not scooping it up right away. On the second time around, I wasn’t going to miss out. As far as jumpsuits go, I think this one is extremely flattering. The button-up design is hidden from sight, so say goodbye to that unsightly gap. The wide leg pants are also breezy and would have the best movement as you take laps around your future party.

I think my heel and clutch combo match this whole look perfectly! These heels from Loeffler Randall were my wedding day shoes and will forever be my absolute favorite pair. Even though I have no issue wearing them on special occassions, I don’t want to rock them too often. Sometimes an outfit just calls for these silver, scallopped beauties and that is so true with this jumpsuit. Not to mention, the low-block heel keeps them comfy for walking around town.

I’m so excited for all of the different events that are scheduled around town this summer. The Cooper-Hewitt Garden Party, the MET Young Members Party, the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island, just to name a few. All of the events in the city aren’t on my schedule, but I promise to share all of the details along the way.

Katie

Belmont Stakes Style

Belmont Stakes Style

Every year, so many of us get excited for the Kentucky Derby. For one day, it seems like the whole country has their eyes on Louisville for the ‘most exciting two minutes in sports.’ Even though the Derby gets a lot of the fanfare, it’s only one of three races that make up the Triple Crown. The second race, the Preakness, takes place in Baltimore, but the final race of the Triple Crown is a local favorite: The Belmont Stakes!

I always assumed the Belmont Stakes were in Saratoga horse country, but it’s actually just a quick cab ride away in Queens. If you have never been able to get to the Kentucky Derby yourself, and happen to call NYC home, this could be a great alternative to see a historic horse race. Growing up, I always loved trips to the Tampa Bay Downs. Gambling has never really been my interest, but seeing those horses fly down the track is worth it alone.

This year’s Belmont Stakes is next week and, even though I haven’t decided if I’m going or not, I’ve already started looking into race day fashions. Just like the Kentucky Derby, wearing an ornate hat or fascinator is almost mandatory. However, in true New York fashion, monochromatic black and white is a part of the tradition. It’s recommened to save your bright colors and florals for a different horse race and wear your favorite combination of black and white. If you are looking for your own inspiration, each year the race also hosts a fashion show to find the best dressed woman at the Belmont. I swear, each fascinator is greater than the last.

If I decide to make my way over to the race, I know I already have my outfit taken care of. This simple black midi-dress is, simply, amazing. The wrap design makes it incredibly flattering and extremely versatile for both a day at work or night out. Keeping the black and white tradition alive, I opted for this white fascinator from Vineyard Vines. Both black and white make for great colors because you’ll be able to rewear them, no matter what color your dress is.

Whether you decide to watch the ‘Run for the Carnations’ at the track or at home, it always makes for an exciting race. Dating back to 1867, it is also the longest race in the Triple Crown. Although we won’t have a Triple Crown winner this year, the winner will be able to hoist a trophy created by a Tiffany & Co designer. Before the race, be sure to sing along to New York, New York by Frank Sinatra, another Belmont Stakes tradition. I hope to see you at the track!

Katie

Ready for Summer Travel

Ready for Summer Travel

NYC, Style Blogger, Summer, Travel, White Blazer, Preppy, Navy, Hermes

Blazer || Tank || Pants || Sandals || Handbag || Watch || Bracelet || Earrings

In Monday’s post, here, I mentioned some of the trips that are starting to take shape for the summer. I’m so excited to experience my first summer in NYC, but it’s also my favorite season to travel. I already have new destinations coming up in the next few months and a few that deserved a repeat visit. As I look back on my ‘2019 Travel Goals’ post, I instantly noticed that none of these trips were included in my original thoughts for the year. It’s amazing how quickly an idea for a trip can take hold and be fully planned out. Here’s a quick look into where I’ll be heading as soon as the final school bell rings, in no particular order.

  • Martha’s Vineyard: When exactly am I heading here? I’m not quite sure, but there have been multiple opportunities to pop up. Growing up in Florida, almost all of New England is new to me and I can’t wait to start exploring. Sinking my feet into sandy beaches and admiring the island’s charm sounds like the perfect way to spend a long weekend. I’ve also never been to Nantucket or Cape Cod, and if the chance comes up to go, I’ll take it in a heart beat.
  • Back to Florida: Obviously, I can’t go a whole summer break without going home to visit my family. Even though the season is unbearably hot to some, I think the summer is a great time to visit the Sunshine State. During this time, tourists generally stay away and it seems like the Gulf Coast beaches are a lot quieter. The only other people to brave the heat are locals. Whether it’s back to St. Pete, revisiting Palm Beach, or going somewhere new, my home state is always calling my name.

  • Paris: What sounds like a romantic vacation for David and I is actually a girl’s trip with one of my dearest friends. She has been to Paris many times and will be perfect to lead me around this new-to-me city. After finding dreamy pictures from Mackenzie Horan and Jackie Greaney, we are staying at the Grands Boulevards Hotel. It seems like a good central location and is a quick walk from all of the sites I want to tackle. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and notes for all of my dear readers.
  • Bordeaux: It’s a good thing I’ve been brushing up on my French! After Paris, I’m following my wine-loving heart to the city of Bordeaux and wine country. From what I’ve gathered, this is a foodie paradise with drinks to match! Our home base will be in the city, but I am just dying to take a day trip to Saint Emillion. Some of their vineyards have been around since the Middle Ages and they are credited with inventing the macarons. Count me in!

There are still some trips in the planning phases. After a few discussions, David and I have recently decided a return trip to Stockholm is definitely necessary. We first spent 48 hours in the Swedish capital, but it just wasn’t enough! We love the culture and speed of the city, but can’t wait to explore the nearby archipelago for some much needed relaxation. I just discovered the Hotel J and fell in love with what I saw! David and I can’t wait to book our stay ASAP.

I will be celebrating summer a little early and am jetting off to one of these places for a long weekend. I’ll have to dash to the airport right after school and wanted to style an outfit that was still comfy for a long flight. These linen pants from LOFT are a great compromise. They are as comfy as can be, but still look incredibly put together. This crisp, white blazer from J. Crew completes the work friendly outfit. I’ve never been more excited for a travel outfit!

Love from NYC,

Katie
