Lilly Pulitzer x Pottery Barn

Dress || Heels || Clutch

With Spring just around the corner, I’m feeling more and more of an urge to add bright colors and prints to my closet. You can take the girl out of Florida, but you will never take the Florida out of the girl. This little dress from Lilly Pulitzer is a great transition from the cooler weather, especially when you live in the city. The long sleeves make it perfect for this in-between sort of weather and the print is much more subtle than what you would normally expect from Lilly. The dress style is called Ophelia and it has been one of my favorites for a while. With a stretchy material and swing shape, it’s both incredibly comfortable and flattering.

If have that same impulse to brighten up your apartment or house, then this new collaboration is just for you. Lilly Pulitzer has teamed up with Pottery Barn once again to create a whole collection of sweet and sunny pieces that could work for any home. Ranging from accents to bedding and all the way to furniture, it’s so tempting to not completely redecorate my entire NYC apartment.

A fun fact about me… I actually worked in retail for Lilly Pulitzer for three years. It definitely explains why I will always have a place in my heart for the brand. Surprisingly, the top questions I would be asked weren’t about clothing, but about home decor! So many ladies out there want to bring those Lilly prints into their own home, much to their husband’s chagrin.

Yesterday, Lilly and Pottery Barn (plus PB Teen and Pottery Barn Kids) celebrated the collaboration with a bang in Tribeca! The soiree included everything you would expect: bright colors, fun motifs, and an iconic juice stand. You could even go pineapple bowling, get your hair braided, and color a wall. Pretty much, it was the spot to be! More importantly, it was also a great opportunity to preview all of the new goodies from Pottery Barn. If you want so shop my favorite pieces, be sure to take a look at my picks below. What do you want to grab for your home?

Have You Met David?

March 13, 2019

NYC, New York City, Style Blogger, Birthday, Husband

Tomorrow my husband, David, is celebrating a very big birthday. Now, I don’t want to embarrass him, but this blog would be no where near possible without his constant support (and great photography skills). So, a little bit of a shout out is absolutely in order and I’m answering some questions that I get the most often.

NYC, New York City, Style Blogger, Birthday, Husband
December 2015:

Where is David from?
David was born and raised in Vermont, about an hour outside of Burlington. He grew up being able to enjoy the great outdoors and the mountains, the complete opposite of my Gulf Coast childhood. Visiting his parents is a great excuse to get away from the city and to someday give skiing a whirl. Later, he went to the University of Rhode Island to run track and majored in biomedical engineering.

April 2017

If he’s from Vermont, how on Earth did you meet?
This is a great example of someone else’s loss being my gain. He moved to St. Pete, from New Hampshire, with a girlfriend at the time. Things didn’t work out between them and we met through Bumble a little while later. He likes to let everyone know that it took a while for us to have our first date because I was “blowing him off.” In reality, I had season tickets to Florida State football and priorities. I’m so glad it didn’t scare him away.

What brought you to New York?
Without looking for it, David was offered the opportunity of a lifetime to join a NYC based company with one of our dear friends. Even though I can’t really can’t go into detail on what he does, since it is way over my head, he is basically on the tech side of an advertising company. What I do know, for sure, is that he’s loving his new jobs and co-workers, and it’s brought us on a great adventure to a new city.

August 2017

How is he with your giant dog?
Although dealing with a 100-pound, stubborn Basset Hound is a huge job, my dog absolutely adores David. There are some ups and down, especially when Tripp is being a brat, but it’s nothing but love between them. Seeing him curl up with David melts my heart and only gives me the slightest twinge of jealousy.

What are his (real) thoughts on blogging?
There are some days, I know, David wishes the blog didn’t exist at all. It takes up a big chunk of time over the weekend to snap content and it looks like I’m always typing on the computer, but David is still the first person to either like my pictures, read my blog posts, or offer the encouraging word. Even when I’m frustrated with my real, 9 to 5 job, I know David will always have my back.

Happy Birthday (early) David! I can’t wait to celebrate with you and enjoy many more years to come.

Packing Guide: Vermont Winter

March 11, 2019

Packing Guide: Vermont Winter
NYC Style Blog, Vermont, Winter, Packing Guide, Travel

Sweater (similar) || Jeans || Bean Boots || Beanie

Okay folks, we are in the final stretch of Winter and Spring is just around the corner. I cannot wait to retire my LL Bean parka for the season and break out a new rainbow of pastels and floral prints. Until then, David and I are actually gearing up for our second trip to Vermont already in 2019. Since he grew up outside of Burlington, it makes for a great weekend trip to get away from the city. After only an hour flight from any of the NYC airports, and you’re already there.

I don’t know if I’ll ever have dressing for winter 100% figured out, but visiting Vermont so frequently has definitely helped me learn. It brings cold temperatures to a whole different level, even by NYC standards. I’ve made a few mistakes along the way, but I think I’ve finally picked up a few tricks along the way to share.

When packing up your suitcase for a trip north, the first place you’ll want to shop at is LL Bean. Since it’s a New England based company, you instantly know two things. One, it is a local favorite and is worn by almost everyone. Two, they’re going to know what they are talking about and have quality to match. I’ve sworn by this company to survive my first winter away from Florida.

Down below, I’m sharing my ultimate packing guide for Vermont, but it would really work for any winter-weather destination. Loading up on cozy sweaters will be your best call, but don’t forget those layering pieces in case you’re like me and freeze easily. Nothing will keep you warm like a flannel button-down under a chunky sweater. Don’t forget to pack a pair of polarized sunglasses, like these from Ray-Ban, to protect your eyes from the bright snow! Other than that, dress for warmth and you’ll be ready to go!

Katie
