A New Favorite Tweed Skirt

January 18, 2019

It seems like only yesterday I started raving about my new love for tweed skirts, but really it was about a month ago and you can read all about it here. Since then, I’ve added more to my closet. Even though I normally just pair them all with a black top, booties and leggings, it always feels like a completely different outfit.

Your best bet to find a rainbow of tweed skirts is LOFT and they have just been rocking it recently. An associate at my local store even told me that this was their best season yet, and I kind of have to agree. The colors of this skirt really sold me. It’s a gorgeous marbling of orange, fuchsia, and maroon that I think will transition perfectly into the Spring. I can’t wait to get back to skirts without leggings!

In the past, I really haven’t been much of a short skirt gal, but there’s a little piece of advice I learned along the way. To give your skirts movement and comfort, size up. This is especially true if you’re curvier.

Since LOFT is currently the reigning champ of tweed and boucle, I’ve decided to make shopping one step easier and round up my favorite pieces. They have your standard skirts, dresses, and jackets, but I just found a pair of tweed leggings that I am absolutely loving! Comment your favorite below and happy shopping.

Winterized Coral

January 17, 2019

Jacket || Sweater || Jeans || Loafers || Handbag || Sunglasses

Every year, around this time, I start chomping at the bit to find out the Pantone ‘Color of the Year.’ Since I’ve been blogging we’ve had the refreshing ‘Greenery‘ in 2017 and the dramatic ‘Ultra Violet‘ in 2018. 2019 is finally here and I’m so excited to play with this year’s color, ‘Living Coral’ as often as I can. It’s such a fun shade that is right up my alley. Dare I say, I think it’s my favorite one yet.

Pulling of such a bright, summery color in the dead of an NYC winter is not for the faint of heart. You will absolutely make a statement among the sea of black and shades of grey. The trickiest thing here is to find a piece of coral that will still keep you warm when the temperature drops. With coral, that’s easier said than done.

That’s why, when I found this coral jacket from Nordstrom, I literally jumped for joy. The teddy coat style was a new concept to me and, if we’re being honest, I was a bit intimidated by how much fabric there was when I opened the box. I was guilty of judging a book by it’s cover because as soon as I slipped this jacket on, I fell in love. It was so dang cozy and it made for a great statement on an otherwise mono-chromatic black ensemble.

To give you all of the coral inspiration you can handle, I rounded up some of my favorite pieces that stick with this Pantone ‘Color of the Year’. Since vacation and warmer weather are hopefully coming soon for you, there are tons of resort pieces here, but I know that many of us still have months left of winter. The pieces that can be layered or worn in the cold, those are for you. Which is your favorite?

Katie

NYC Direct Beach Getaways

January 16, 2019

We’re right in the middle of Winter and all I can do is dream about my next warm weather getaway. I was spoiled rotten living in Florida. I didn’t have to go anywhere to get a beach day in January or February, I was already there! I’m sure I’m not the only Northern gal thinking this way and I’ve done some research for you so you don’t have to. There are oodles of direct-flight destinations for you to choose from.

  • Bermuda (JFK to BDA): For being an international destination, this spot couldn’t be easier to get to. Just a quick 2 1/2 hours separates you from this gorgeous island. David and I will be heading here for a long weekend in less than a month. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to share all of the details.
  • Palm Beach (EWR or JFK to PBI): Who said beach vacations have to be out of the US? My love for Palm Beach has been no secret since I spent a weekend there with my girlfriends (posted here). It’s a quiet little town that will give you the exact kind of R&R you’re looking for.
  • Tulum (JFK to CUN): Okay, so this spot requires a flight to Cancun and a two hour drive down the coast, but I just had to include it on my list. This Mexican town on the Gulf Coast seems like a bohemian dream and I talk about going there at least once a month!
  • Puerto Rico (JFK to SJU): Another sunny destination that (surprisingly) doesn’t require a passport. Because Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth, you get all the perks of the Caribbean without having to go through customs. David and I went on a trip here a few years ago and we can’t wait to go back.

  • Aruba (JFK or EWR to AUA): I personally have never been to Aruba, but many of my co-workers go every year, so it must be good! Just the sound of Aruba sounds like the prime example for a beach getaway. Que The Beach Boys.
  • Miami (LGA, EWR, or JFK to MIA): If you want one more domestic vacation that has a little bit more of the party scene, Miami may be the choice for you. Being another major US city, there are multiple, inexpensive flights daily from all three of the local airports.
  • Barbados (JFK to BGI): Honestly, is there anywhere Jet Blue doesn’t fly? When planning our February trip, Barbados the number two favorite. The only issue I had was that the flight was a little too long for a long weekend. If you have the chance for a longer trip, this may be the destination for you.

Just talking about all of these vacation spots is giving me major wanderlust. I’m always open to adding more places to my travel bucket list. If you have any other recommendations, be sure to leave a comment below and happy traveling!

Love from NYC,
Katie
