My 2022 in Review

My 2022 in Review
📍 New Orleans, Paris, Montreal

Sweater || Jeans || Chelsea Boots || Coat || Beanie || Similar Handbag || Earrings

Oh, 2022! What a long strange ride it’s been. Yet, I’m incredibly grateful for all the ups and downs! This year has been about exploring new destinations and making memories with old friends. I’ve also had a few reminders not to squander the present because the future is never guaranteed. While that’s not the most common mindset for a healthy 30-something, it’s a mantra I have brought into 2023. But first, I would love to end the year with a quick recap of my life from month to month. Please feel free to join my 2022 in review.

January

January: Rang in 2022 on 30A

2022 began with a bang on a foggy New Year’s Eve on 30A. This pristine stretch of sand along Florida’s Emerald Coast is an absolute hot spot during the summer. In the winter, including the holiday season, it’s much quieter and has a hint of chill in the air. It was the perfect spot to unwind with friends before a hectic year ahead.

February: List to my Inner Child at Disney World

Before this spontaneous and short trip to Disney, I couldn’t remember the last time I visited. It was a mainstay activity during the summers while I grew up, but it wasn’t where I found myself in adult life. We met with friends for less than 24 hours and made the most of it. The lines and crowds were insane, but I couldn’t help and feel like a kid during the trip.

March: Work Events in Wisconsin and Utah

March may have been my busiest month of all! Following a visit from my in-laws, I almost immediately hopped on a plane for back-to-back conferences in Wisconsin and Utah. All in all, it was about a whole week on the road. Trust me when I say that I probably slept for nearly 24 hours when I got home. Well, not quite. Meeting new people and seeing new places is my favorite, but it is all incredibly exhausting.

April: First Return to NOLA Since 2019

After nearly three years away from my favorite city, I couldn’t be happier to make a triumphant return to New Orleans in April. It was a wonderful trip to perfectly balanced old haunts and new additions. It was a real reminder of why NOLA means so much to me. I know what it means to miss New Orleans.

May: 10 Days of Bliss in Paris and Provence

Our biggest vacation of the year was, of course, our visit to France. The days in Paris and the Provence region perfectly blend our two travel styles. The hustle and bustle of Paris, filled with miles of walking and endless museums, spoke to the city dwellers in us. At the same time, the road trip through Gordes, Saint Remy de Provence, and Avignon reminded us to slow down and love the journey as much as the destination. It’s going to be so incredibly tempting not to have a repeat visit to the incredible country in 2023.

June: My 31st Birthday in NYC

Another year around the sun, another incredible birthday spent in New York. In true Manhattan fashion, we spent the weekend at some of my favorite cocktails, dinner with friends, and a long walk through Central Park. I know there have been a lot of negative things said about NYC recently, but this city is charged, alive, and will forever feel like home.

July: A Quiet Month at Home

July was by far my quietest month, but the cleared schedule was incredibly welcome. The weather in Florida was too hot even to want to go outside, but we still managed to take advantage of Florida’s off-season by visiting some new spots in St. Pete. Think of it as one final reprieve before a very hectic last half of the year.

August: Friends Trip to NYC and the Hamptons

Towards the end of the month, we hopped back up to New York to celebrate our friend’s birthday. One night was spent in the city, followed by a restful weekend in the Hamptons. Their home is absolutely gorgeous, but the real treat was brunching at the newly opened Canoe Place Inn. This hotel is stunning and definitely a place I’m looking forward to visiting again this summer.

September: 24 Hours in Nashville

One last work trip of the year! Before a conference brought me to Murfreesboro, I snuck away to have a girls’ night in Nashville. The Graduate is incredible! The Dolly Parton-inspired hotel is filled with stunning patterns and bright colors. It’s genuinely an interior design lover’s dream. The real treat was their rooftop pool and bar, with endless country music playing (of course). Also, this month, I celebrated my best friend’s wedding bliss, and we went to Miami for a quick weekend.

October: Mother-Daughter Trip to Las Vegas

In truth, the very beginning of October began on a stressful note from Hurricane Ian. While The worst of the storm thankfully spared David and me, our hearts broke for our neighbors in the southern counties. The light at the end of the tunnel was treating my mom to a Las Vegas girls’ weekend. Although I’m not a gambler, I had so much fun hopping from casino to casino, eating at incredible restaurants, and seeing one of Elton John’s final performances.

November: Whirlwind Weekend in NYC

November led to another trip to New York, and it wasn’t even our last of 2022. I was able to get reservations at the Polo Bar, a miracle unto itself, and we celebrated our friend’s new engagement. The next day, we took the train to Connecticut to escape the city and spend a little time in coastal New England.

December: Winter Wonderland in Montreal

The holidays are always wildly busy, and this year was no exception! We had a quick visit to Manhattan, followed by a train ride to Vermont, where we just raced ahead of the winter storm. After a few days snowbound, we spent time in Stowe and Montreal with family. This was my first time in Canada, and I loved our wintery visit to this historic city. The big finale for the year 2022 was one more journey to Palm Beach to ring in the new year with friends and warmer weather.

With each and every step along the way, I’m so thankful to have David along for the ride. He is always open to joining me on my impromptu trips and is the perfect partner. I’m so excited to share another round of travel adventures and more in the year 2023!

Love from 2022,
Katie

In for 2023

In for 2023
📍 Rainbow Room, New York City

New Year, In, 2023, Goals, Resolution, Travel, NYC

Dress || Boots || Tights || Similar Handbag || Earrings || Lip Color

Welcome to the year 2023. I took one more extra day off to help me get back to the work reality. The good news is I have a renewed sense of inspiration and purpose with my blog, and I am looking forward to making blogging a bigger priority in the new year. The keen observer noticed a little rebrand towards the end of the year, where Orange to Apple became Katie Coleman Kennedy. You can still expect my same love for travel and classic fashion but with a deeper attachment to who I am and who I want to be. After a wonderfully busy 2022, I’m looking forward to a slower-paced year with more intention and reflection. Instead of putting together a list of resolutions, here is my list of what’s ‘in’ for 2023.

Reinspired Ventures

Sometime in 2022, I began Long Weekend Guides to share my passions for writing, photography, and travel on its own platform. It fell on the back burner through no fault of my own but was something I was daydreaming about constantly. Coming soon, you’ll be able to order thoughtfully created 20-plus page issues to help your travels to some of my favorite places. Gasparilla Inn, Newport, and New Orleans are already live, but I have a whole menu of destinations coming soon to you in the year 2023. This is a new frontier for me, so any support and feedback are always greatly appreciated!

French Cooking

Thanks to my trip to Paris and Provence, I found such a deep love for all things French. The Parisian style, classic French tunes, and of course… cooking! I was gifted some incredible cookbooks for Christmas, and I can’t wait to cook French for the foreseeable future. Comforting beef bourguignon in the winter will roll into frisbee salads in the summer. If you need me, you’ll find me in the kitchen!

New Year, In, 2023, Goals, Resolution, Travel, NYC

Spending Nights In

David and I were so on the go towards the end of 2022. Even though we love a social night out, we really began to look forward to date nights at home. I’m talking about your coziest clothes, your favorite takeout, and a bottle of wine while you listen to a jazz playlist. In the year 2023, I’m looking forward to making our home feel like the most intimate restaurant in town.

Monochromatic Looks

Looking back on a year full of posts and outfits, I noticed a huge shift. Suddenly, my closet, full of pastels and bright colors, turned into a rainbow of blacks, grays, and white. Some pops of reds or blues (like this beautiful dress from Tuckernuck) are welcome, but I love the thought of monochromatic outfits for the new year. Très chic!

Slow Paced Travel

Even when I’m on vacation, I’m always on the go. I want to see all the sites, visit all the museums, and make all the reservations. I have no idea what travel is in store for me in 2023, a scary thing unto itself. No matter where I land, I hope it’s for a relaxing, slow-paced vacation where I can swallow up a good book and truly unwind. No cell phones or laptops are allowed!

Chic Sneakers

I have to give Julia Berolzheimer a quick mention. Since she featured the ChloĂ© Nama sneakers, I have not stopped thinking about them. They must remind me of a pair of shoes I had back in the day. Whatever the reason, I cannot wait to get my hands on a pair! In the meantime, I got a fresh pair of Veja sneakers and have dubbed 2023 the year of the sneaker. While I love my Chanel flats, Hermes sandals, and Sarah Flint heels, you can’t go wrong with a classic and comfortable pair of sneakers.

More Reading

Last year, I set out to read 50 books in one year. I was on track, but the summertime got the better of me, and I couldn’t reach my goal. I stopped counting, but I don’t even think I cracked 20. The horror! This year, I’m going to adjust my goals and set out to read 25 books. I have a giant stack of never been opened editions calling my name! First up, On Gin Lane, a Christmas gift from my dear friend, Sydney.

Daily Tea Time

Every once in a while, David and I come together for a cup of tea. One of us puts on the water and we have a check-in on our happenings for the day, things that are the horizon, or anything else on our mind. It’s a really nice bit of time where we mute our phones and computers to just reconnect. What an incredible benefit of both working from home and I appreciate what a little luxury this is. I want to make sure to continue this in 2023, and maybe even a few finger sandwiches to make this a proper high tea.

New Year, In, 2023, Goals, Resolution, Travel, NYC

As we look ahead to the (nearly) fresh slate, I wish you a the best luck on your upcoming resolutions, goals, and ventures. Thank you so much for beginning another year with me. I hope to serve a tiny corner of happiness and inspiration in this vast blogging world. Cheers to the new year!

Love from NYC,
Katie

My Christmas shopping is done for the holiday season. Gifts have been wrapped and sent to Santa for delivery. Later this week, we leave for a very full travel schedule to end the year 2022. I find that Christmas lists get more difficult the older I get. My loved ones want to know what I’m hoping to find under the tree, but the reality is, if there’s something I need or want, I tend to buy it myself. I’ve rounded up some things on my luxury wishlist for one last surprise gift guide. Here are twelve luxury gift ideas, just in case I win the lottery next year!

Dutch Oven

With the colder season here, I have a long list of soup and stew recipes that I’m dying to try. Many of them recommend having a Dutch oven in your kitchen just for the task. This enameled Dutch oven by Le Creuset is dishwasher safe, meaning it moves from prep to cooking to cleanup without a hitch. They come in a rainbow of colors and are seriously a work of art. You’ll want to keep it out on display long after the dishes have been put away.

Lipstick Set

The holidays are the best time of the year to try out new perfumes and beauty items. Some of my favorite brands come out with gift sets that perfect under the Christmas tree. This lipstick set from Christian Dior comes with four swoon-worthy colors and a crossbow carrying case so you can bring the little beauties on the go. Which color do you think you’d wear the most often?

Coupe Glasses

Founder and owner of Estelle Colored Glasses, Stephanie, is inspired by her grandma, who loved antiquing throughout South Carolina. From stemware to cake stands, her glass pieces are absolutely stunning and come in a rainbow of colors. It seems like a loving nod to dinner parties from years ago when the tablescape was everything. I can’t decide between the wine glasses or the champagne coupes.

Tea Cup Set

Lettuceware of any variety was a hot item in Palm Beach, Florida, during the 1960s. There’s something so fun and whimsical about them. For whatever reason, it gives me visions of a tea party from Alice in Wonderland. This cup and saucer set from Tory Burch are perfect to start a collection. Be sure to include your favorite flavor of tea bags for a complete gift.

Cashmere Sweater

Is there anything more luxurious than cashmere? It’s a splurge that I’ve become more comfortable with taking because the warmth and feel is truly a step beyond. Honestly, these cashmere socks from J. Crew are packed and ready for my winter trip to Vermont and Montreal. To start a cashmere collection, start with the classic, like this black crew sweater, also from J. Crew.

French Girl Sunglasses

Recently, my Instagram has been flooded with quintessential French girl chic. It’s been so inspiration and I can see my daily wardrobe start to make a transition over. A common item that I see throughout is this pair of Celine sunglasses. I’m obsessed! They have a certain piece of vintage inspiration, but are still modern and be worn daily. Santa baby, I would love to see these under the tree!

Luxury, Gift Guide, Wishlist, Shopping, French Girl, Chanel

Pearl Earrings

Classic pearl earrings are a staple in my life. Nearly every morning, I slip them in and instantly feel put together. I can promise you that they will never go out of style. These David Yurman Earrings are my absolute favorite! By taking simple measures, they will be a family heirloom and look forward to passing down for generations. In the meantime, I can happily wear them and feel my best!

Coffee Table Book

Coffee table books are such a luxury. They can dress up a living room and act as a source of inspiration, and not much else. I still love splurging on them for some serious eye candy! Assouline Publishing makes some of the most stunning books out there, especially their travel collection. …. is dedicated to the city I will always call home, with over 300 illustrations for you to love. From uptown to downtown, new and old, I Love New York!

Designer Bag

The Jackie bag from Gucci gets its name from my ultimate style icon, Jackie Kennedy. I’m so happy that Gucci brought back this classic bag, but still gave it a few updates for the 21st century. This piece will find all of your essentials while you’re running errands around town and still looks refined enough for date night or a blacktop affair.

Espresso Machine

Recently, I had a conversation about what my “rich life” is. What are things that I love spending money on in my everyday life? One of those things for me is an excellent cup of coffee. I wish I could begin every day at a European cafe with a coffee and pastry. Since that’s just not in the cards for me right now, the next best thing is to have that coffee, at least. SMEG appliances always look incredible with their vintage-inspired design, and this Espresso Machine would look so great in my kitchen! Trip to Italy sold separately.

Chic Sneakers

I want to personally Julia Berolzheimer for beginning my obsession with these Celine Nama Sneakers. I usually swear by my Vejas, and wear them as often as I can, but the style of these shoes are so incredibly unique. They come in a rainbow of color options, but I love the mix of tan and black to make these as versatile as possible. Don’t be surprised if you find these in my closet in 2023, at which point I’ll wear them with daily.

My Signature Scent

Last year, I received a mini bottle of Jo Malone’s Lime Basil and Mandarin perfume in a sample kit. I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s such a unique scent and I’ve been happy to take it on as my signature. I’ve always had a penchant for citrus-y fragrances, but the savory notes from the basil make this a show stopper. I always get compliment when I wear it out because curious minds want to know where my perfume came from.

Luxury, Gift Guide, Wishlist, Shopping, French Girl, Chanel

Like I said before, consider this to be the shopping list of my dreams! I love finding versatile, high quality pieces on more of a budget salary, but it’s fun to think about a champagne budget. Happy shopping and even happier holidays!

Love from New York,
Katie
