Christmas, Holiday Gift Guide, Last Minute, Shopping, NYC

Did you wake up this morning with a feeling of “Oh crap!” because you forgot a few things on your holiday shopping list? Take a deep breath and have no fear because there’s still enough time to shop online for a thoughtful gift for your loved one. In my final Gift Guide of the 2022 holiday season, I’m sharing 12 last-minute finds that look really great under your Christmas tree. There’s a little something for everyone!

Travel Guide

I bought my copy of the New York Times 36 Hours Guide at a thrift shop in Palm Beach, Florida. Still, to this day, it’s one of my favorite second-hand purchases. This book is filled with hundreds of long weekend ideas and is perfect for the perennial traveler. Your loved one can enjoy it as a reference book, a coffee table addition, and a fun read to inspire some wanderlust in 2023.

Chess Set

Thanks to Queen’s Gambit in 2020, chess has had an uptick in popularity in recent years. Playing the game is quiet and relaxing, and that would be a perfect fireside activity. This silver and mirrored chess set is such a stunner! The neutral colors will make it a welcome addition to anyone’s home.

Duo Wine Glasses

I’ve spent the better part of this holiday season raving about Estelle Colored Glass, but I wanted to switch it up for my final gift guide. A wine glass set from Sophie Lou Jacobsen makes a beautiful gift at just the right price. The color block design is a fresh take on a kitchen-slash-dining room staple. You’ll want to look at all her glassware and may even be tempted to buy a little gift for yourself too.

Cozy Blanket

The need to snuggle with an oversized blanket gets stronger and stronger as the weather gets cooler. Add a fun movie and a big bowl of popcorn, and I’m in heaven! This particular blanket looks so cozy, and I want to dive right in. Pom Pom at Home offers several different color options, so you can perfectly match someone’s personal style and home decor.

Warm Slide Slippers

After a night of celebrating, everyone deserves to kick up their feet and relax. Especially if you live in a colder climate, these warm slide slippers would be such a thoughtful and often used gift. Make your best guess on size, but a gift card is always a great backup plan if you aren’t very confident.

Classic Sunglasses

When my parents ask me what I want for Christmas, I always have a hard time coming up with anything to ask for. Sunglasses have become a go-to request for me because they are something I know I will use daily. I’ve long been in love with oversized, Jackie O type sunglasses, and this pair from Oliver Peoples perfectly fits the bill. Because I would never ask for a pair of nearly $600 sunglasses, I wouldn’t be upset to see this pair of Ray-Bans sunglasses under the tree. They have that same timeless look at a fraction of the cost!

NYC Framed Print

The older I get, the more and more I appreciate splurging on a piece of art. I think it’s because we have a home of our own to decorate. A fun photographer to explore is Gray Malin. He is one of my favorites and instills a tremendous feeling of wanderlust. When shopping for the holidays, think of a memory or destination that has a lot of significance and go from there.

Stylish Apron

Here’s one last gift idea for the kitchen! The print design of this apron from La Double J is so stunning and can be worn year-round, no matter the season. What I love the most about this brand is that a matching table cloth, napkin set, and more are available. If you’re not sold on the green and light blue florals, be sure to take a look at all of the options.

Winter Skin Set

The cold, dry weather can be so harsh on your beautiful skin. Help combat that for your loved ones with this kit from Dr. Barbara Strum. Inside, you’ll find a menu of lotions, potions, and balms to help keep the skin looking and feeling its best. This is perfect for the beauty product maven or ski bunny in your life. They’ll even love the included puffed travel bag to organize their goodies.

23AndMe Set

The holiday season just seems like the ultimate time of year for 23andMe gifting. I’m a bit of a history buff and would love to know more about my family and where they came from. There are a few sets to choose from, but the one I picked also included traits and health, along with your ancestry. Maybe this would be something for me to explore more in 2023.

Harvest Herb Garden

I started getting more involved in the kitchen this year. What really elevates the recipes I’ve attempted is having fresh herbs on hand. While herbs can be expensive to buy and finicky to grow, this harvest garden makes it a breeze, even during the winter months. The kit includes basil, dill, mint, and more to help take your cooking to the next level.

Stand Mixer

Although I view the stand mixer as a baking-focused gift, it’s perfect for anyone in the kitchen. This 5.5 quarter mixer from Cuisinart comes in a rainbow of colors and won’t quite break the bank like similar mixers. Mix, knead, whisk, and so much more with the must-have kitchen gadget.

Christmas, Holiday Gift Guide, Last Minute, Shopping, NYC

Once again, there’s still time to holiday shop. I hope you found some inspiration with this gift guide for last minute finds. So, don’t panic if all hope seems lost. Especially if you’re traveling for the holidays, often your presence will be a gift enough. That being said, maybe a little gift card to their favorite restaurant or shop will be a welcome gesture! I’ll be quieting down over the next few day to round out 2022. So if I don’t see you around, have the happiest of holidays!

Love from New York,
Katie

New York, NYC, Manhattan, Holiday, Gift Guide

Manhattan is always a good idea! Still, there’s something about the holiday season that makes it feel even more magical. People travel from all over to take advantage of the beautiful light display and holiday shopping. Although I don’t currently live in New York, my heart will always be there. It’s that spirit that inspired my latest Holiday Gift Guide. Here are 12 gift ideas that scream I Love New York for the New Yorker that’s near or far.

New Yorker Puzzle

David’s Grandma absolutely loves a good jigsaw puzzle! She quite a collection in her home and it’s such a fun way to spend a few hours with loved ones. This puzzle comes directly from the covers of the New Yorker magazine and is just right picture for the holiday season. At under $25, it’s perfect if you need that one extra gift to put under the tree.

Bond No. 9 Perfume

What makes Bond No. 9 unique is that it’s the first and only niche New York fragrance company. It offers around 16 different fragrances that are inspired by different neighborhoods found in the city. It’s hard to think of a better perfume to gift your loved one who loves everything about New York. My favorite is the Tribeca fragrance. With subtle notes of jasmine, cedar, and cacao, it’s a unique scent that I guarantee people will begin to notice.

Harlem Candle

I always love the opportunity to support well-loved and innovative woman-owned businesses. Harlem Candle Company checks all of the boxes. Founded in 2014, Teri Johnson planted herself in Harlem to learn about the neighborhood’s incredible past. An element of Harlem’s history inspires each scene from her collection. The Speakeasy candle, and its beautiful ceramic jar, get its name from the underground nightclubs found during Prohibition.

NYON Hat

New York Or Nowhere has long been a favorite amongst New Yorkers near and far. This fall, they finally opened their much anticipated storefront, which is wonderful! They have all types of hats, tees, and sweatshirts galore that are perfect for anyone who loves the city. I love this simple New York or Nowhere ‘dad’ hat for a great stocking stuffer or one last gift to put under the tree. It’s never been easier to represent the city you love.

Matchbook Print

Some of my most cherished New York memories occur at the Carlyle, drinking and socializing at Bemelmans Bar until late at night. It is an absolute icon and begs the thought, “if these walls could talk.” This framed print from Charles Ryan Clarke is a constant reminder of an unforgettable evening. With hundreds of options to choose from, I think a matchbook print always makes for a great gift.

Intarsia Sweater

One souvenir that I can’t say no to is a fun, intarsia sweater. You often see them for quintessential New England locations, like Newport or Vermont (I have both). Ellsworth and Ivey is a woman-owned business specializing in these fun sweaters with detailing that span the entire country. The cozy, cotton blend sweaters can be worn year-round, especially on a cool December New York day.

Greek Inspired Ceramic Mug

You know you’re a New Yorker when you become a regular and the neighborhood coffee cart. The “We are Happy to Serve You” cup is iconic. If you can’t get your daily cup in person or just want to minimize your carbon footprint, this ceramic mug is just the ticket! It’s equal parts charming and practical.

Needlepoint Coaster Set

This needlepoint coaster set from Smathers & Branson has all the hits: the Statue of Liberty, Washington Square Arch, the Brooklyn Bridge, and (of course) the city skyline. This cute little stocking stuffer is sure to please, especially because it will fit in nearly every New York apartment.

Needlepoint Pillow

Here’s one more needlepoint pick for good measure. Although Jonathan Adler’s style and influence span the world over, there’s something still very New York about his work. Case in point, this needlepoint pillow from his Jet Set Collection. It will help add a little pizzazz under the Christmas tree and is an excellent gift for anyone with a love for design.

Oversized Tote Bag

The secret to surviving a day in New York? Have an oversized tote bag for all of the essentials. Obviously, there are a few more steps than that, but the bag thing certainly helps. Recently, Kate Spade came out with the ‘I Love NY’ collaboration and I think it’s an instant icon. The Manhattan tote bag is an extremely versatile bag that will everything you need to conquer the city that never sleeps.

Snow Globe Mules

So, I’ve been daydreaming about these snow globe-inspired heels pretty much since I laid eyes on them. There’s something so wonderful and whimsical about them, and no one has perfected whimsical quite like Kate Spade. I’m not going to lie to you. These shoes obviously aren’t going to be an everyday kind of shoe or even one that I would wear if I knew I was doing a lot of walking. But, wearing them to a dinner party or on date night? Perfection!

Don Angie Cookbook

New York is a city of countless incredible restaurants. While the thought of eating out every meal is tempting, it’s not exactly practical or budget-friendly. Instead, give the gift of fine dining by passing along a cookbook from a favorite restaurant. With its Michelin-star distinction, Don Angie is considered one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Their Italian American cookbook includes recipes for some of their most popular dishes, including their pinwheel pasta and their chrysanthemum Caesar salad. Never stress about this impossible reservation again!

New York, NYC, Manhattan, Holiday, Gift Guide

Although my time is New York is three years away, it’s a city that will always have a big piece of my heart. I can’t quite tell what the future holds, I hope it includes more trips to Manhattan and the city I love so much!

Love from New York,
Katie

France, French, Francophile, Holiday Gift Guide

Earlier this year, I had the absolute pleasure of spending nearly two weeks in France. With one week in Paris and one week exploring the Provence region, it’s easy to say that I fell in love with the country! It truly is so magical, and I cannot recommend visiting it enough. I would love to book another trip in the year 2023, but if I can’t, I’ve been thinking of ways to add a healthy dash of French to my life. Here are 12 ideas for the Francophile in your life with my latest gift guide.

French Cookbook

I have such a love for French cuisine. The simple ingredients and the right amount of spices (and butter) make for such incredible flavors. I’ve been growing my French cookbook collection recently. Mastering the Art of French Cooking from Julia Childs is a must, but I also like to pull recipes from Dinner in French. The next on my list is Plat Du Jour: French Dinners Made Easy. This book includes 352 pages of new recipes to try in the new year, and I can’t wait!

Skincare Set

France is known the world over for their beauty products, with many making annual trips to Paris to stock up on supplies! It only makes sense since French women are renowned for their beauty and youthful glow. After researching and trying a few different brands, I really love the products from Sisley Paris. This Velvet Nourishing set is perfect for cold winter days when my dry skin is at its worst.

Classic Perfume

While in Paris, I made sure to visit the iconic Officine Universelle Buly. This perfume boutique is absolutely incredible! There are countless perfume and skin care options, and it’s tempting to spend all of your souvenir budget here. I came home with a bottle of their orange blossom eau de perfume. The scent is light and citrus-inspired, perfect to be used as a daily favorite or for special occasions.

France, French, Francophile, Holiday Gift Guide

Ritz Baseball Hat

There is nothing more luxurious than visiting the Ritz in Paris. Even if you don’t stay there, it’s still worth a visit. You can feel the history as you walk through its hallways. Recently, FRAME collaborated with the Ritz Paris, and I love every single item. The baseball hat is the most versatile pick that can be worn year-round and is the perfect gift for the Jetsetter on your shopping list.

Herbs de Provence

After traveling through the South of France this year, I quickly learned to love this French kitchen essential. Ever since, I’ve been adding herbs de Provence to nearly every recipe. From soups, salads, omelettes, it really elevates an already delicious meal. There’s just something about the blend of thyme, tarragon, rosemary, and even lavender. This blend from William-Sonoma comes in a cute ceramic jar for the chef or foodie.

Nautical Shirt

France has a long history with striped Breton shirts, and Saint James has always been at the center. Not only is it a French essential, historically worn by the Navy, but it’s also an incredibly versatile piece that belongs in every closet. There’s a rainbow of colors and styles, but the most classic pick would have to be navy and white stripes. Think of this as the ultimate symbol of Parisian chic.

France, French, Francophile, Holiday Gift Guide

Framed Matchbook Print

One of my most cherished memories from Paris includes drinking and socializing at Harry’s New York Bar until 2 in the morning. Claiming to be the oldest cocktail bar in Europe, this place is a favorite amongst locals and tourists. This framed print from Charles Ryan Clarke is a constant reminder of an unforgettable evening. With hundreds of options to choose from, I think a matchbook print always makes for a great gift.

Iconic Tea Cup Set

For me, a perfect Parisian morning starts with a coffee and croissant at CafĂ© de Flore. Watch the world pass on Boulevard de Saint Germain as you enjoy your breakfast and attempt to read the local paper. If only every morning can be spent here. Since that’s probably not a reality right now, gifting a tea cup set from CafĂ© de Flore may be the next best thing. Pick up a croissant from your local bakery and you can add a touch of French to your morning routine.

French Earl Gray Tea

Although the Brits are most often associated with tea, the French may have perfected it. On my most recent trip, we had tea time at Laduree’s, and it was heavenly! One of the most beloved tea brands in France is Mariage Freres. Founded in 1854, it was developed by two brothers who imported tea from Asia and India. Gift a slice of France and history with this tin of Earl Gray Imperial tea. At Under $35 each, you can even mix and match to create a custom set.

French Oven

With the colder season here, I have a long list of soup and stew recipes that I’m dying to try. Many of them recommend having a French oven in your kitchen just for the task. This enameled French oven by Le Creuset is dishwasher safe, meaning it moves from prep to cooking to cleanup without a hitch. They come in a rainbow of colors and are seriously a work of art. You’ll want to keep it out on display long after the dishes have been put away.

It-Girl Sneakers

Parisian women are notorious for having effortless and functional style. It’s extremely common to see one rocking an incredibly chic outfit with white sneakers. A favorite brand amongst the French set is Veja, especially their white sneakers. I’ve been wearing mine for several years and I can attest how seamlessly they can pull together almost any outfit. They’re also incredibly comfortable too!

Tote Bag

Not only are Longchamps the perfect travel tote bag, but they are also a quintessential French accessory. While in Paris, you see countless locals carrying as they hurry around the city. Longchamp created this particular tote bag to celebrate Bastille Day, France’s national holiday. You really can’t get any more Parisian than that!

France, French, Francophile, Holiday Gift Guide

Et VoilĂ ! These 12 Francophile gift ideas are sure to please and dazzle. Even simply shopping for them is enough to inspire a 2023 voyage to France. Maybe I’ll see you there!

Love from Paris,
Katie
