Holiday Season, Mental Health, Stress, Christmas

Bright and early tomorrow morning, we head up to New York City. While I’m so excited to visit local favorites and friends, it’s mostly a stepping stone to get to Vermont for the holidays. We haven’t been up to see David’s family during Christmas in a few years, and we made a quick decision. As happy as I am to see the extended Kennedy family, I know that this time of year can be so stressful and triggering for countless people. Trust me, there have been isolated holidays where I was filled with anxiety, so I know what it’s like. As the holiday is fast approaching, here are some quick tips to keep in mind for your mental health.

Holiday Season, Mental Health, Stress, Christmas

Write a Gratitude List

The holiday season is the perfect time of year to reflect on what you have to be thankful for. That includes family, friends, maybe your job, but also within yourself. Jot down a list of all you accomplished this past year and keep it available for quick access. Remember that no feat is too small! If you find yourself getting overwhelmed with all that the holidays entail, take a moment to review the list. This will be particularly helpful if you have overly competitive or critical relatives because they’re found in almost every family!

Create Boundaries and Realistic Expectations

If you take a quick moment to self-evaluate your mental and emotional needs, then you may pretty quickly have an idea of what boundaries you’ll need to set for your own mental health. Depending on your family dynamic, a boundary may be a time limit, a buffer in the form of a loved one, or even a physical distance. Prioritizing your mental health may take some people by surprise, especially if they display particularly toxic behavior, but you must remain strong! You are beyond brave for creating these boundaries. If anyone doesn’t fully support you, it negatively reflects them and not your decisions.

Holiday Season, Mental Health, Stress, Christmas

Attempt to Keep a Consistent Schedule

With so many incredible soirees on the itinerary, the holiday season is often a busy one. Even with so many beautiful memories and late nights, it’s essential to keep a schedule. Getting a good night’s sleep can make even the tensest family situations feel better. Drink lots of water and get a full eight hours for your physical and mental health. The same can be said about when and what you eat. For every indulgent treat, have a serving of fresh fruit and vegetables. After the holiday season, your body will thank you!

Don’t Schedule Too Much

Just because there are so many loved ones to see doesn’t mean you have to see them all in one swoop. While the holiday season is over in the blink of an eye, there are still 365 days to celebrate with family and friends. I’m so often guilty of scheduling too much during this time of year. I have dinners to attend and parties to celebrate while squeezing in travel and shopping. Take a look at your schedule with a keen eye to decide what may need to be skipped for your mental health. If cancellations need to happen, be sure to give enough notice to your gracious host and pass along a gift to show your appreciation.

Take Time For Yourself

Even with travel and parties mentioned above, be sure to add time for yourself. Even just 30 minutes of quiet and reflection can do wonders from a mental standpoint. Treat yourself to a pedicure or massage, and let your mind travel away from the endless to-do list. Even if you’re already at a party, and feel yourself feeling overwhelmed, take the time to go on a quick walk through the neighborhood or 15 minutes in a quiet space for some reflection. Even if you’re the most social of butterflies, this can be a lifesaver during a long Christmas celebration.

Enjoy Yourself

The holidays only come once a year! Even with so much on your plate, don’t forget to find the joy in the holiday season. This may be from a religious or spiritual point of view but can also be seen through a more secular lens. Laugh with your family, indulge in perfected family recipes and don’t be afraid to get silly. No matter what your final plans for the holiday end up being, if you’re not smiling throughout, it may be time to reassess. There’s a long list of appropriate cliches here. Instead of listing off, think of your favorite and play that as a mantra. After all, isn’t life too short?

Holiday Season, Mental Health, Stress, Christmas

If holiday shopping is still on your to-do, feel free to get inspired by my first set of gift guides. While I have a few more on the way for last-minute shoppers, I will begin to quiet down to focus on time with family. I hope this holiday season is stress-free, but just in case it’s not, know that you’re not alone!

Maybe it’s because I’m just one week away from flying North for the holidays, but I definitely have travel on the brain. If you’ve been following me for even a short time, you know that’s not really anything new. Planning trips, even ones that aren’t scheduled, is my form of relaxation. Researching new destinations fuels me and inspires me to see the world. Do I consider myself a “Jetsetter”? Not by any means, but I know what shopping for one can be like. With this next guide, you’ll find 12 gift ideas for your favorite world traveler. Whether that’s your friend, your sibling, or even yourself, happy shopping! Let’s meet back here in 2022 to discuss more travel!

Packing Cubes

As a chronic over-packer, I am always the girl who needs to sit on the suitcase even to close it. If that’s your character flaw, too, consider that a thing of the past. I have these packing cubes from Paravel, and they have made my life so much easier. Consider it an additional layer of protection from over-stuffed travel bags. These packing cubes are perfect for travelers who go on longer trips and need to fit as much as possible.

Moisturizing Face Cream

Even the shortest of flights can wreak havoc on your skin. I began using Summer Fridays Jet Leg moisturizer while surviving NYC winters. My skin was miserably dry and comfortable, but this stuff was such a tremendous help! Ever since, I have kept this in my travel bag to save my skin on a flight. Especially while wearing a mask, just rub a layer on your face for skin salvation.

Packable Tote Bag

Only only are Longchamps the perfect travel tote bag, but they are also incredibly packable to bring along. You never know when you have a score of souvenirs and local vintage pieces to bring home! The Longchamp also tends to be the personal item when flying. The zipper enclosure keeps my valuables safe while still fitting everything. There are a few sizes to choose from, so pick whichever works best for you.

Comfy Walking Shoes

Although have heels for every day of the week, I typically forgo all of them while traveling in leu of a great pair of sneakers. Especially your trip entails going straight to the airport and on to site-seeing, you want a pair of kicks that will be with you every step of the way. My Vega sneakers are my absolute favorite. They go with everything and are chic dress up or down.

Travel Steamer

Nothing’s worse than finishing a full day of travel only to find everything you packed to be incredibly wrinkled! What if you have a work function or special dinner to get ready for? So panic doesn’t ensue, be sure that a travel-sized steamer is one of the first things you pack in your suitcase. This one is a personal favorite because of its mini size. It also doubles as a portable iron, perfect for having crisp lines and cuffs.

Cashmere Travel Wrap

Even though I tend to run warm, I always freeze when I fly. Because of that, I always travel with an oversized wrap to help me stay comfortable. This cashmere travel wrap from J. Crew is extra roomy and as soft as a cloud. I love to wrap in it while still having enough to use a little cushion while attempting to get some sleep.

Jewelry Case

If your loved one likes to pack their jewelry when they travel, it helps to have it organized! This jewelry case is made from pebbled leather and has compartments for all of the baubles and bits. Hellenic Aesthetic does an incredible job of sourcing Greek crafts and goods. Shopping with them alone is like a bit of vacation. Plus, you’re supporting a woman-owned small business. Win-win-win!

Travel Book

Has anyone had a serious case of wanderlust since the year, well, 2020? Daydreaming about travel keeps me sane and happy all year round, but it gets heightened closer to the new year. A new calendar, a whole opportunity to schedule wonderful trips! These coffee table books from Assouline are inspired by some of the most incredible destinations in the world: Tuscany, Palm Beach, Mykonos, the list goes on and on. Gift a favorite to your most jet-set of friends and start their very own collection.

Passport Cover

I’m so proud of my little passport. Each time I add a new stamp, I feel an incredible sense of pride. Still, I like to dress it up so that my passport can hold all of my essential travel documents: tickets, luggage information, and more! This passport cover is simple, I love the navy color, but it holds everything. It’s also RFID protected to keep any card or personal information extra safe!

Chic Pajama Set

On particularly long flights, it’s so tempting to just slip into a pair of your comfiest pajamas. Because this pajama set from J. Crew is so chic, you may want to consider giving in to temptation. The TENCEL fabric is extremely comfortable and melts onto you as you sit on a trans-continental flight. This particular set comes in a full rainbow of colors and can even be monogrammed for an extra personal touch!

Travel Pillow

An excellent travel pillow was long on my list of things to get. I did a decent amount of flying around in the year 2021, and it seemed like it was time to invest finally. The best thing about this supportive pillow is that it can completely conform to your sleeping style. Priced at under $35, it’s very much worth it for a good ride of sleep.

Vintage Suitcase

Last year I treated myself to a similar vintage suitcase, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Without fail, I get at least one compliment every time I use it. Better still, the Entreapeaneur Carry-On from Steamline is surprisingly roomy. Despite its small size, I have easily fit enough clothes for four days, plus outfit changes. It has such an incredible elegance that you typically don’t associate with air travel anymore. It’s perfect for the traveler with an old soul or penchant for mid-century style.

gift guide, shopping, travel, Jetsetter

Even though 2021 is almost entirely in our rearview mirror, it’s never too early to help prep for the upcoming year—a new 365 days of adventures and travel. For your globetrotting and jet-setting loved ones, consider passing along a gift that will help them go boldly to that new destination.

Gift Guide for the Splurge

December 6, 2021

Gift Guide for the Splurge
📍 St. Pete, Florida

Mikimoto Earrings || SMEG Espresso Machine || Assouline Coffee Table Book
Gray Malin Wall Art || Chanel Lipstick, Nail Polish & Perfume Set || Sleeper Pajama Set
Olivia Morris Fuzzy Slippers || Loeffler Randall Heels || Hermes Clic Clac Bracelet
Ginori Dining Set || J. Crew Cashmere Sweater || Gucci Handbag

Splurge, Luxury, Holiday Shopping, Gift Guide, gifts

Tank || Skirt || Similar Heels ($50 off with code SARAHFLINT-BAKATIE) || Similar Handbag || Bracelet || Earrings

Have your loved ones been awfully good this year? Maybe you want to splurge on someone, either for holiday shopping or just for yourself. After a long year, there’s really nothing wrong with treating with a luxurious gift or two. Even if you just want to reward yourself for a year of hard work, I fully support you! To help you with your high-end shopping, here is a gift guide for the splurge. I hope you love these 12 picks as much as I do!

Mikimoto Pearl Earrings

Classic pearl earrings are a staple in my life. Nearly every morning, I slip them in and instantly feel put together. I can promise you that they will never go out of style. I have a few pieces from Mikimoto, and while I cherish each for different reasons, these Akoya Stud Earrings are my absolute favorite! By taking simple measures, they will be a family heirloom and look forward to passing down for generations. In the meantime, I can happily wear them and feel my best!

SMEG Espresso Machine

Recently, I had a conversation about what my “rich life” is. What are things that I love spending money on in my everyday life? One of those things for me is an excellent cup of coffee. I wish I could begin every day at a European cafe with a coffee and pastry. Since that’s just not in the cards for me right now, the next best thing is to have that coffee, at least. SMEG appliances always look incredible with their vintage-inspired design, and this Espresso Machine would look so great in my kitchen! Trip to Italy sold separately.

Assouline Coffee Table Book

Coffee table books are such a luxury. They can dress up a living room and act as a source of inspiration, and not much else. I still love splurging on them for some serious eye candy! Assouline Publishing makes some of the most stunning books out there, especially their travel collection. New York by New York is dedicated to the city I will always call home, with over 300 illustrations for you to love. From uptown to downtown, new and old, I Love New York!

Splurge, Luxury, Holiday Shopping, Gift Guide, gifts

Gray Malin Wall Art

Gray Malin photographs some of the chicest destinations in the world! Manhattan to Palm Beach, even Antarctica! I have a wish list from Gray Malin a mile long, but his collaboration with the Beverly Hills hotel takes the cake! Is that a Basset Hound in its not-so-natural habitat, I see? For major wanderlust, I recommend admiring his Lake Como collection. I’m instantly brought back to visions of my Italian honeymoon!

Chanel Lipstick, Nail Polish & Perfume Set

If there’s one designer synonymous with luxury, then I would have to say it’s Chanel. Gifting a handbag may be a little far-fetched, although I have been pretty good this year. Instead, an incredible gift that presents just as well as a specially made set of lipstick, nail polish, and perfume. Since you’re picking out the pieces individually, you’ll have a selection that expertly matches your loved one’s style and taste.

Sleeper Pajama Set

You’ve probably the Sleeper pajama set all over your social media, including on me last month. It’s such a fun gift idea that is simply perfect for the holiday season. If your family is prone to matching pajamas on Christmas morning, then you may want to consider upping the ante a bit. If you’re feeling particularly daring, then I dare you to wear this out at your holiday-themed soiree or get-together. I promise that you won’t regret it!

Splurge, Luxury, Holiday Shopping, Gift Guide, gifts

Olivia Morris Fuzzy Slippers

Since I’ve had pajamas on the mind, it only makes sense for me to continue on with a truly lush pair of slippers! Any slipper from Olivia Morris will be a bit of a splurge, but sometimes you just need to indulge. Slip in and enjoy a velvet footbed, and faux fur finishing. Made in Spain, you’ll notice the quality as soon as you lay eyes on them. If pink is not the right choice, there’s still a rainbow of colors to choose from!

Loeffler Randall Heels

Because I wore them on my wedding day, Loeffler Randall heels will always have a very special place in my heart. This sparkly pink pair is a fresh take on an incredibly popular style and is a fun holiday match. Better still, you can easily wear them all year round. I genuinely hope to see these under the tree on Christmas morning. They would be such a beautiful addition to my wardrobe!

Hermes Clic Clac Bracelet

One year, David completely surprised me with a little orange box under the Christmas tree on our first Christmas in New York. Inside was a white Hermes Clic Clac bracelet that I wear nearly every single day. It’s a luxurious gesture in a small package. If you can’t get to a Hermes boutique, I highly recommend buying second-hand from Fashionphile. It can open a whole new window of available colors and styles.

Ginori Dining Set

For a complete dining set, a table of Ginori porcelain would be an incredible splurge. While I can’t just yet buy a complete tablescape, there’s so much to be said about one teacup set. This handcrafted porcelain mug is made in Italy. It’s a stunning step-up from your standard chinoiserie that has become an instant classic.

J. Crew Cashmere Sweater

Cashmere is one of the softest and most luxurious fabrics out there. Baby soft, it will keep you warm on even the coldest winter day. Over the past few years, J. Crew has been my favorite destination to shop for cashmere sweaters and winter gear. I love how they offer a full rainbow of colors, but it’s the friendly price point that really makes my heart swoon.

Gucci Handbag

David, are you reading this? Gucci has been hot on everyone’s mind with House of Gucci, but I have long been a fan. This year they have come with some stunning pieces. I particularly love the collections that have been inspired by their past, including the Diana Bag and Jackie Bag. How I would just LOVE to see one of those bags under the tree!

Splurge, Luxury, Holiday Shopping, Gift Guide, gifts

Yes. These gift guide picks are such a splurge, but they will look so great underneath the Christmas tree. More importantly, they’re going to awe and delight whoever’s on the received end on one. Maybe that’s a family member or dear friend, but it could also be a sincere gift to yourself. You decide!

Katie
