Tucked along the quiet shoreline of Rhode Island’s southern coast, the Weekapaug Inn is one of those rare places that feels like a secret passed down through generations. It’s charming and understated, yet every detail, from the afternoon light bouncing off the water to the Adirondack chairs perfectly spaced on the lawn, feels intentional. We recently spent a summer night here, and it was everything I wanted it to be: breezy, beautiful, and full of little luxuries that left me feeling like I had truly unplugged.

Lunch at the Bathhouse

Our stay began with a casual yet memorable lunch at the Bathhouse, the Inn’s oceanfront outpost just a short walk ride away. It’s barefoot luxury at its best: tables overlooking the pond, hearing the crash of the waves, and a menu that somehow makes a lobster roll feel like a revelation. We ordered margaritas, clam pizza, and a watermelon cup for Brennan, who was more interested in Del’s frozen lemonade than her lunch. I can’t imagine a more quintessential start to a summer weekend.

Quonnie Queen Boat Tour

In the late afternoon, don’t miss a 45-minute cruise around Quonochontaug Pond. Departing from the dock just beyond the backyard lawn, the ride is slow, serene, and quiet. As we drifted past sweeping salt marshes and charming waterfront homes, the captain pointed out wildlife and shared bits of local lore. It was one of those rare family-friendly activities that’s just as soothing for adults as it is exciting for little ones.

Relaxing on the Lawn

Back at the Inn, the lawn was the center of it all. Families played shuffle board, couples sipped cocktails from the bar inside, and guests lounged with books and sun hats. We found a sunny spot and settled in for the afternoon. Brennan was on the verge of taking her first steps and practiced all along the lawn. Knowing that she’ll have the Weekpaug Inn as a summer retreat for years to come is nothing short of heart-warming.

History Tour of the Inn

Later, I joined a guided history tour of the Inn, which gave us a deeper appreciation for the property’s roots. Originally opened in 1899, the Inn has been lovingly restored with great care and a reverence for its past. The architecture blends classic New England shingle style with warm, contemporary comfort, and the stories of old Weekapaug, including the devastating hurricane of 1938, made me feel so much more in touch with the inn’s past.

Dinner at The Deck

Dinner at The Deck was a treat. Set against the backdrop of the pond at sunset, the ambiance was breezy but refined. We started with oysters and shared a delicious bowl of New England clam chowder and fries. Even in the summer time, this is one of my all-time favorite meals. The staff here is always so warm and attentive. They make you feel so welcome whether it’s your first visit or you’re an annual guest.

Movie Night on the Lawn

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we grabbed fleece blankets and found a spot on the lawn for movie night. Guests of all ages cozied up for the show: Jaws. It’s one of my absolute favorite movies and I loved being able to celebrate its 50th anniversary. There was popcorn, twinkle lights, and the gentle hum of crickets in the background. Brennan fell asleep halfway through, and we decided to leave so we could tuck her in for the night.

A summer stay at the Weekapaug Inn is everything you can hope for: classic, calming, and filled with thoughtful touches that made it feel like a true retreat. Whether you come for the views, the food, or just the chance to breathe deeply in salt air, you’ll find yourself slowing down and soaking up every minute. We left feeling lighter, salt-kissed, and already dreaming of our return.
