My calendar is telling me fall, but the temperatures in NYC yesterday were definitely saying summer. Since it looks like I have one last chance to talk summer styles, I’m mentally going back to Newport. I wanted to share this gorgeous shirt dress from Anthropologie, but honestly thought I had lost my opportunity. September just seemed to whirl by!

When I packed for Newport, posted here, I talked all about nautical inspiration. That almost entirely came from spending time at the many wharfs on the Narragansett Bay. You couldn’t even walk a couple feet without running into an anchor or sailing reference. It reminded me so much of home and was the perfect location for an early morning stroll.

Not resting on aesthetic alone, there is so much to do at the wharfs. First of all, come hungry! Although Newport is a small town by some standards, they welcome thousands of visitors every year and everyone leaves satisfied. In last weeks Newport City Guide, posted here, I name some of my personal favorite restaurants like The Black Pearl and the Clarke Cooke House. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Daily, we walked by Diego’s, 22 Bowen, Fluke, and The Wharf Southern Kitchen. Although we didn’t eat at Smoke House, they may have the best Bloody Mary in town!

At the wharfs, don’t forget to do some shopping! This part of town is the best place to grab a memento or souvenir from your trip. With one darling shop after the other, it’s hard to know which to choose. My advice, go into every single one of them. Each has its own speciality and may be the only place to find that perfect item. These aren’t your average, cookie-cutter tourist shops. The Kiel James Patrick store is probably the most popular, at least with girls in their 20s. Monelle is an upscale boutique that offers beautiful beaded clutches and laidback fashion. For the man in your life, the only place to go is Royal Male. This is David’s favorite store and he’s always wishing they had a location in Manhattan.

Even though it’s been nearly a month since my Newport visit, I can’t stop thinking about it. I was completely blown away with how much this small town had to offer. Sadly, my Newport posts are winding down. With only two left, that means I need to plan another trip as soon as our schedule allows!

Love from NYC,
Katie
