I’ve visited New Orleans more times than I can count, and over the years I’ve stayed in everything from grand historic hotels to charming boutique properties. What keeps drawing me back is the city’s unique ability to feel both familiar and surprising at the same time. Every visit includes a few beloved traditions, whether that’s lunch at Napoleon House, an evening of jazz music, or wandering through the French Quarter without much of a plan. On this most recent trip, however, one of the highlights wasn’t a restaurant or attraction. It was our hotel. Maison Métier managed to become part of the experience itself, and by the time we checked out, I was already looking forward to staying there again.
While Maison Métier is undeniably luxurious, what struck me most was how deeply connected it felt to the city around it. Housed within a beautifully restored historic building, the property embraces the layered, collected feeling that makes New Orleans so special. Nothing feels overly polished or corporate. Instead, the spaces feel personal, as though they’ve been assembled over decades rather than designed all at once. The hotel has the character and charm of New Orleans without relying on clichés, creating an atmosphere that feels sophisticated, welcoming, and distinctly local.

The Location
Whenever we visit New Orleans, the Central Business District is almost always our neighborhood of choice, which just so happens to be home to Maison Métier. While I love spending time in the French Quarter, I don’t necessarily want to stay there. The CBD offers a noticeably quieter atmosphere while still keeping you within walking distance of many of the city’s most iconic attractions. During our stay, we found ourselves walking to the French Quarter for dinner then returning to a calmer environment at the end of the night. Beyond its convenient location, the neighborhood is filled with excellent restaurants, charming coffee shops, and even a full grocery store just around the corner from the hotel, which proved especially helpful while traveling with a toddler. Another advantage is easy access to the historic St. Charles streetcar line, which can whisk you away to the Garden District for an afternoon of exploring. For us, the CBD strikes the perfect balance between convenience and comfort, making it an ideal home base for experiencing the very best of New Orleans.

Our Room
I had originally booked a Deluxe Luxury King Room but was fortunate to receive an upgrade to a King Grand Corner Studio Suite, which turned out to be the perfect setup for our family. Traveling with a toddler always changes the way I evaluate a hotel room, and this suite offered enough space for Brennan to comfortably play and unwind without feeling cramped. One of our favorite features was the soaking tub, which quickly became part of our evening routine after afternoons spent swimming at the rooftop pool of Maison Métier’s sister property, The Barnett. The room itself felt elegant without being fussy, and every evening we returned to find thoughtful touches waiting for us, including fresh macarons and a full carafe of water during turndown service. Those details may seem small, but after spending hours exploring New Orleans in the summer heat, they felt incredibly generous and appreciated.

The Amenities
What truly separates Maison Métier from other luxury hotels are the small daily rituals woven into the guest experience. Guests can request a fresh pot of coffee delivered directly to their room each morning, gather for afternoon iced tea service in the Living Room, and enjoy complimentary wine, cheese, and charcuterie in the evening. None of these amenities feel excessive or performative. Instead, they create a sense of hospitality that encourages guests to slow down and enjoy the property. It is rare to find a hotel that feels this intentional, where even the simplest moments seem designed to make you feel welcome.

The Dining
One morning we had breakfast in the hotel’s dining room, and it remains one of my favorite spaces within the entire property. The room itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere feels far more like a private residence than a hotel restaurant. If you visit, order the Eggs Sardou. It’s a New Orleans classic and was easily one of the best breakfasts of our trip. Equally memorable was Salon Salon, the hotel’s hidden cocktail bar. Tucked behind a discreet entrance, it immediately reminded me of the intimate cocktail bars I’ve loved discovering in Paris. The lighting is warm, the atmosphere feels wonderfully cozy, and it invites you to linger. The Espresso à la Métier and Pommes Pavé are both worth ordering, and I also loved the hotel’s honor bar, which felt like one final thoughtful touch before heading out to dinner each evening.

The Decor
As someone who inevitably comes home from every trip with far too many photos of hotel interiors, Maison Métier was a dream. It wasn’t one dramatic design feature that stood out, but rather the way everything worked together. The bathrooms quickly became an obsession of mine, with their lavender walls, Moroccan-inspired tile, and beautiful fixtures. I took more photos than I’d care to admit for future home inspiration. I was equally drawn to Salon Salon, which somehow manages to feel both glamorous and comfortable at the same time. Every room within the property feels layered, collected, and personal, creating a hotel that is visually stunning without ever feeling intimidating.
The longer I reflect on our stay, the more I realize that what I loved most about Maison Métier wasn’t the beautiful room, the complimentary wine hour, or even the hidden cocktail bar. It was the feeling the hotel created. From the moment we checked in, it felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. The service was warm, the design was thoughtful, and every interaction felt genuinely hospitable. In a city known for exceptional hospitality, Maison Métier somehow manages to stand out. If you’re planning a trip to New Orleans and appreciate beautiful design, thoughtful service, and hotels with a strong sense of place, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Love from New Orleans,
