One of my favorite parts of planning any trip is deciding what to pack. I don’t believe in bringing an entirely new wardrobe on vacation. Instead, I like to build a suitcase around pieces I already love and wear regularly at home. Not only does it make packing easier, but it also ensures that I actually feel like myself while traveling. For New Orleans, I focused on lightweight fabrics, comfortable shoes, and classic pieces that could handle long days of walking in the Southern heat. Between wandering through the French Quarter, shopping along Magazine Street, enjoying leisurely lunches, and dressing up for dinner, I wanted outfits that felt polished without being fussy. Here is everything I wore during our long weekend in New Orleans.

Travel Day to New Orleans

For travel days, comfort is always my first priority. I wore a simple black tee paired with white jeans and my black espadrilles, a combination that feels polished enough for the airport while still being comfortable for a full day of travel. The neutral palette also made it easy to transition straight into exploring once we arrived.

Date Night in the French Quarter

One of my favorite outfits from the trip was this white Hill House Home dress paired with Sarah Flint sandals. The dress felt light and romantic while still being comfortable in the evening heat. It’s exactly the sort of outfit I gravitate toward when traveling: simple, feminine, and easy to wear. Paired with my woven handbag, it felt perfectly at home among the historic streets of the French Quarter.

Exploring the City and Poolside Afternoons

For a day spent wandering the city, grabbing coffee, and relaxing by the pool, I reached for pieces that could do a little bit of everything. A crisp white button-down layered over my black gingham Hill House Home Delphine skirt created an effortless look that felt polished without trying too hard. Finished with my black espadrilles and woven bag, it quickly became one of my favorite outfits of the entire trip.

Dinner with My Family

For a family dinner in the French Quarter, I wore a black linen shift dress paired with my black espadrilles. I love having a simple black dress in my suitcase because it’s one of the easiest pieces to dress up or down. In a city known for colorful architecture and vibrant surroundings, the simplicity of an all-black outfit felt chic and timeless.

Lunch and Shopping in the Garden District

The Garden District called for something a little more polished. I wore a white linen shift dress with Sarah Flint sandals and my Sarah Bray straw hat. The combination felt equal parts Southern and French, which seemed fitting for a city that blends those influences so beautifully. This was the outfit I wore while strolling beneath the oak trees, admiring historic homes, and spending the afternoon shopping along Magazine Street.

Travel Day to Pensacola

After New Orleans, we continued on to Pensacola for my friend’s wedding weekend. For the drive, I wore a black top and skirt set paired with Sarah Flint sandals. The matching set felt comfortable enough for travel while still looking put together once we arrived.

Looking back, the pieces I wore most were also the simplest. A great white dress, a classic button-down, comfortable sandals, a woven handbag, and a straw hat carried me through nearly every activity on the trip. When packing for New Orleans, I would focus on breathable fabrics, comfortable shoes, and timeless pieces that feel equally at home in a historic hotel lobby, a neighborhood café, or a late-night cocktail bar. The city itself provides all the personality you need.

Love from New Orleans,
Katie
