Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, marking the beginning of the holiday season and offering a wonderful excuse to spend a long weekend with family and friends. Between traveling home, catching up over cocktails, gathering around the Thanksgiving table, and enjoying a few slower mornings, the holiday calls for a little bit of everything when it comes to getting dressed. Whether you’re heading out of town or hosting family at home, finding the right balance between festive, polished, and comfortable can be surprisingly tricky. With that in mind, I’ve put together five Thanksgiving weekend outfit ideas for all the occasions that tend to fill the holiday calendar. Think cozy knits, classic denim, rich autumn colors, and a few polished accessories that can easily be mixed and matched throughout the weekend.

Traveling Home
When it comes to travel days, comfort is always my first priority, but I still like to look reasonably put-together. My favorite formula is a great pair of jeans, a cozy sweater, and a classic coat that can be worn throughout the trip. For this look, I paired dark-wash denim with a burgundy cashmere sweater and a timeless trench coat. Brown suede ballet flats are easy to slip on and off, while a roomy tote keeps all the essentials close at hand. A baseball cap adds a slightly sporty touch, making this an outfit I’d happily wear for a flight, train ride, or a few hours in the car.

Thanksgiving Eve Cocktails
Thanksgiving Eve is the perfect excuse to get a little dressed up, whether you’re meeting old friends for drinks or heading out for a casual dinner with family. I love the combination of a crisp white blouse and black leather pants because it feels effortlessly polished without being overly formal. The ruffled collar adds a feminine detail, while the leather trousers bring a little edge to the look. Suede block-heel loafers are a practical alternative to traditional heels, and a mustard-yellow clutch provides an unexpected pop of color. Finish with a classic red lip, and you’re ready for an evening out.
Dress || Scarf || Boots || Lip Gloss || Glass
Festive Family Gathering
For Thanksgiving Day, I always gravitate toward something that feels special enough for the holiday but comfortable enough to wear for hours. A neutral sweater dress is one of my favorite solutions because it’s essentially an entire outfit in one piece. This taupe turtleneck dress feels cozy and relaxed, while tall chocolate-brown suede boots give it a more polished finish. I especially love the addition of a burgundy silk scarf, which introduces a beautiful autumn color and a little pattern without overwhelming the look. A few simple accessories are all you need for an outfit that works just as well for Thanksgiving dinner as it does for family photos.
Pajama Set || Slippers || Blanket || Puzzle || Coffee Mug
Slow Morning at Home
One of the best parts of Thanksgiving weekend is having a little extra time to enjoy the morning. No rushing out the door, no getting dressed for work, just a hot cup of coffee and perhaps a holiday movie or a puzzle with family. For those moments, I love a matching pajama set, especially one in a classic plaid. Add a cozy pair of slippers and a soft throw blanket, and you’ve got everything you need for a relaxing morning at home. I couldn’t resist including a festive mug and a New Yorker puzzle, either. Sometimes the simplest holiday traditions end up being the most memorable.
Sweater || Pants || Boots || Tote Bag || Sunglasses
Weekend Brunching
After a few days of holiday festivities, a casual weekend brunch is the perfect way to wrap things up. I love the idea of pairing a Fair Isle cardigan with cream-colored jeans for a look that feels cozy, classic, and just a little bit festive. The warm brown and ivory color palette is particularly pretty this time of year, while suede ankle boots make the outfit practical for chilly November mornings. A simple canvas tote and tortoiseshell sunglasses finish things off. It’s the kind of easy outfit that works equally well for brunch with family, a morning coffee run, or a little exploring before heading home.
Jacket || Sweater || Jeans || Loafers || Handbag
The key to packing for Thanksgiving weekend is choosing pieces that can work for more than one occasion. A great pair of jeans, a versatile coat, comfortable shoes, and a few favorite sweaters will take you surprisingly far. I always try to stick to a relatively cohesive color palette so that everything in my suitcase can be mixed and matched, leaving a little extra room for anything I might pick up along the way. Above all, Thanksgiving weekend should be about enjoying time with the people you love, not worrying about what to wear. Hopefully, these five outfits offer a little inspiration for whatever your holiday plans have in store.
