It’s hard to believe we’ve officially lived in Connecticut for two years. In many ways, it feels like we just arrived—and in others, it feels like this has always been home. Over the past year especially, we’ve settled into a beautiful rhythm of life here. We welcomed our daughter, Brennan, and in doing so, discovered a whole new way of experiencing our surroundings. There’s something so special about seeing your home through your child’s eyes: every cobblestone street, every waterfront walk, every small-town bakery suddenly feels brand new. Whether we’re exploring historic towns, driving through leafy backroads, or simply spending quiet weekends at home, Connecticut continues to surprise and delight us.
Essex and the Connecticut River
On an early summer day, we made a spontaneous trip to Essex—a quintessential New England town that feels straight out of a postcard. Tucked along the Connecticut River, Essex is steeped in maritime history and timeless charm. We wandered the quiet streets, peeked into antique shops, and capped off the afternoon with lunch at the Griswold Inn, one of the oldest continuously operating inns in America. You can feel the stories in the walls—especially with a cold glass of iced tea in hand and Brennan napping in the stroller beside us.
Litchfield County
No year in Connecticut feels complete without at least one visit to Litchfield County. Although it’s about an hour away, the drive itself is part of the experience—quiet, winding roads that make you want to roll down the windows and play your favorite weekend playlist. We’ve explored farm stands, lingered over long lunches at countryside cafés, and admired the views that stretch for miles. It’s the kind of place that makes you breathe deeper and move slower, and it always leaves us feeling a little more grounded.
Mystic and Seaport Museum
One weekend, when my parents were in town visiting, we finally made it to Mystic—and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. The Mystic Seaport Museum was the highlight of the trip, with its immersive exhibits, historic ships, and sweeping views of the Mystic River. We lingered on the docks, letting Brennan watch the sailboats drift by. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and take it all in—history, nature, and that salty coastal air.
As we celebrate two years here, I feel endlessly grateful for the quiet beauty and richness Connecticut offers. It’s not flashy, but it’s full of depth—like a well-loved book you want to read again and again. Watching Brennan grow up here has been the greatest joy, and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for our little family in this charming corner of New England.
